October 29, 2003 stranded in
Houston with Robby
As mentioned
two days ago, the fires
ravaging southern California caused
numerous flight delays into L.A. Trying to get back home from the
D21C show the previous night,
Robby was scheduled on the same flight out as
me on Monday morning, and we found ourselves with 3 hours to kill at Houston's
IAH airport. Go figger, but people seem more interested in the
details of the time spent with Robby than my

Robby is a Great Guitarist!
Robby Krieger
is #91 among
the 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time (huh? ... only 91? ) according
to Rolling Stone issue #931 dated 9/18/03 (cover: Hendrix):
#91
Robby Krieger of The Doors - "Krieger's strengths are flexibility and
self-effacement. A broad stylist whose influences extend to country,
flamenco and raga, he could also get as nasty as he needed to, but he understood
that instrumental interplay was what mattered. Essential

Bright Midnight announcement <> Robby interview
Bright Midnight has made an
announcement regarding expected upcoming releases:
"The Doors
are reevaluating the release schedule for Bright Midnight Records. As a
result, everything has been stopped for now. Basically the band is
rethinking Bright Midnight at this point. The "Vancouver" performance has
been taken off of the schedule. The
only forthcoming release this year will be "Boot Yer Butt," formerly titled Best
of the Boots, a personal project of Robby Krieger, in the works for quite some
time. Robby has personally selected the tracks for this after hours of
listening to our concert performance archive and countless other bootlegs.
It smokes!"
Robby Krieger gave Albuquerque's "Alibi" a pre-show interview. If I read this correctly, it sounds like the forthcoming new album may include live tracks from these tour dates, as well as some of the new songs they have spoken of previously. read it

March 25, 2003 Robby's
golf tourney results
Robby Krieger was a
celebrity golfer on Sunday in a charity golf tournament hosted by KLOS
morning radio team, Mark & Brian. When the results are uploaded to their
website, I'll post the link here. In the meantime: Mark & Brian reported on
the results this morning. Robby & his
foursome finished in 2nd place in 'A' flight. The foursome with Fee Waybill
of The Tubes finished 1st place in 'A' flight. Martin Sheen's group finished
in 2nd place in 'B' flight.

March 23,
2003 Robby
played in celebrity golf tourney today
Robby
Krieger
was a celebrity golfer today in the KLOS
Mark & Brian 3rd Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament at Coyote Hills Golf Course,
Fullerton, CA ... a mere two miles from my home! I caught up with Robby
several times at the holes where spectator access was allowed, and got to chat a
little. He was wearing a white golf shirt, tan pants, and a US Open baseball
cap. Robby was paired with the 4 golfers who won the last M & B tournament. He
said they had birdied at each hole so far, so he was feeling pretty good about
their score and thought they just might win today! Robby was not at the
"pairing party" the night before; the band was rehearsing. They leave
Wednesday for their Phoenix show that night. I asked Robby how Waylon is
doing. He said Waylon does not have a band right now, but that he is keeping
himself busy writing new songs. When KLOS posts the final scores and rankings
of today's tournament, I'll include the link here so we can see if Robby's team
won!

February
13, 2003 Ray
and Robby respond to John's lawsuit, according to Variety
According to Variety.com
dated February 12th: (thanks,
Dave B.)
HOLLYWOOD (Variety)- By Phil Gallo - The riders on the legal storm over the use
of the name the Doors are duking it out in the press.
Drummer John Densmore (news) was widely quoted following his Feb. 4 filing of a
lawsuit in L.A. Superior Court to stop his former bandmates Ray Manzarek and
Robby Krieger from hiring a new drummer and singer and taking the band on the
road and recording a new album under the moniker the Doors: 21st Century.
Manzarek and Krieger, fresh off last Friday's successful reunion gig at the
Universal Amphitheater, aren't waiting for a court date to fight back.
"John has an open invitation," said keyboardist Manzarek. "Everybody asked him
and he said, 'No, my ears (are too damaged).' Then I said, 'Why not play hand
percussion?' and John said, 'No way. I'm not a sideman.' Instead he then chose
to sue us. He gave Robby his blessing (to use the name).
"This is ridiculous. The guy who put together the band and plays keyboards is
performing with the guy who wrote 'Light My Fire,' 'Love Me Two Times' and 'Love
Her Madly.' If we're not the Doors, then who is?" Manzarek asked.
Friday's concert was attended by concert promoters and talent buyers from across
the country in town for an industry convention. The Agency, which books the
band, is fielding offers for April and May dates in the Midwest and East and
summer shows in Europe.
Stewart Copeland of the Police, who has been rehearsing with Manzarek, Krieger
and singer Ian Astbury, bowed out of Friday's concert due to an elbow injury;
his participation in the spring shows is in doubt. Ty Dennis, a member of
Krieger's band, has filled in.
