" The movie will begin in five moments,

The mindless voice announced,
All those unseated will await the next show. "

We filed slowly, languidly into the hall.
The auditorium was vast and silent.
As we seated and were darkened, the voice continued:

" The program for this evening is not new,
You've seen this entertainment through and through.
You've seen your birth, your life and death,
You might recall all of the rest.
Did you have a good world when you died?
Enough to base a movie on? "

James Douglas Morrison made the most of his short but incredibly intense life,
inspiring with his truthful writing and relaxed, authentic vocal style.  A psychedelic
rocker with the soul of a poet, Jim Morrison was a connoisseur of things new and offbeat,
experimenting with everything from Nietzsche to the bohemian underworld of California.

Jim’s interest and love of the arts began in college.  While studying film at UCLA,
he began reading William Blake and writing original poetry.  In 1965, Morrison
and friend Ray Manzarek decided to form a band, and recruited two more
to complete the circle:  Robbie Krieger and John Densmore.

 The group became known as
THE DOORS

The James Douglas Morrison Memorial Scholarship has been created to help fund
other aspiring artists in the place that started it all for Jim Morrison - UCLA Film School.

Why support the James Douglas Morrison Memorial Scholarship at UCLA?

The "average" UCLA Theater Film and Television (TFT) student is
extraordinary. Our students inspire, amaze, and enrich audiences
through their artistry and scholarship. Their determination and
vision promises to shape the future of theater, film and television.

UCLA’s top-ranked programs aggressively cross cultures, schools of thought and
professional disciplines -- preparing students to appeal to a 21st century global audience.

Nurturing extraordinary artists in an era of dwindling public funding is an ongoing
struggle. We urgently need your support. By contributing to the James Douglas Morrison
Memorial Scholarship you help educate the next generation of storytellers, artists and scholars.
