<> Barney's Beanery owner R.I.P.
9:30 p.m. Today was the release date for "Twisted Tales", the last CD release from Ray and Roy Rogers. UltimateClassicRock.com ran a story about the CD, and also mentions that the full length documentary examining their collaboration and friendship will be released this fall ... so that's something else to look forward to. Read the full story at: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/ray-manzarek-last-album/. Read another review at: http://music.broadwayworld.com/article/Ray-Manzarek-Roy-Rogers-Release-Twisted-Tales-CD-20130618
9:30 p.m. Roy Rogers was interviewed recently by BAM Magazine and, of course, reminisces about his collaboration with Ray and their friendship. Included in the body of the interview is a 9-minute video interview with Ray and Roy from when they were working on their second CD 'Translucent Blues'. Read the interview and watch the video at: http://bammagazine.com/index.php/the-news/346-bam-rounds-up-roy-rogers-ray-manzarek-for-exclusive-interview
9:30 p.m. Ray's longtime Webmaster Dave is asking for "Ray Stories" from fans, as well as from friends and collaborators. If you have a "Ray Story" that you would like to share with other fans, please send it to: firstname.lastname@example.org
9:30 p.m. John Densmore's book signing on Friday at Amoeba seems to have been captured (well, 2-1/2 minutes of the two hours) by a videographer standing nearby. If you were lucky enough to get inside, you may see yourself in line. Near the end of the video, a friend of John's shows up, at which time John takes a break and they adjourn to the stock room for privacy. Watch the video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Zuvb_dqyTw.
9:30 p.m. Barney's Beanery owner Irwin Held passed away this week. Mr. Held's ownership lasted from 1970 to 1999, according to the LA Times obituary story, which mentions both Ray and Jim. Read it at: http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-irwin-held-20130619,0,4482946.story
John at Amoeba
11:50 a.m. John Densmore's book signing on Friday evening at Amoeba Music in Hollywood left more than 100 fans very disappointed. According to a friend who arrived at 5:00 and futilely waited in line for three hours, the Amoeba people advised that John was on a strict two-hour time limit and that he had to leave at 8:00, although they hoped he'd be nice enough to stay longer. My friend was #240 and was still awaiting his turn at 8:00; consequently, he did not get to meet John or have anything signed. Amoeba allowed fans who did not 'make the cut-off' to return the books that were a required purchase for the event. (thanks, Howard)
'Twisted Tales' release date
12:50 p.m. Ray Manzarek and Roy Rogers had completed their third CD, "Twisted Tales", and I had been waiting for a street date at the time of the sad news of Ray's death on May 20th. Today I noticed that a June 18 release date has been announced on the Manzarek-Rogers website: http://manzarek-rogersband.com/. "Twisted Tales" is available for CD and MP3 pre-order on Amazon.com, where you can see the track listing and listen to samples. Followers of Ray and Robby's early years of touring together will recognize some song titles that were performed but never recorded! Check it out at: http://www.amazon.com/Twisted-Tales-Ray-Manzarek-Rogers/dp/B00D3XMLLC

John LA Times interview <> Kim Fowley on Ray <> Ray remembered <> Alexandria Roller Rink <> Rolling
Stone poll <> UCR contest
3:50 p.m. John Densmore was interviewed by L.A. Times music journalist Randy Lewis for today's Pop & Hiss music blog: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/posts/la-et-ms-john-densmore-doors-unhinged-book-signing-amoeba-20130613,0,2276164.story. This story is in advance of tomorrow evening's book signing appearance at Amoeba Music in Hollywood, where a book purchase is required. As has been the protocol at previous events, John will sign the book plus one more item ("no collections"): http://www.la.com/ci_23454579/john-densmore-from-doors-book-signing
3:50 p.m. Kim Fowley, record producer, musician & much more, reminisced about Ray with Ray's friend, music journalist Harvey Kubernik. Read that here. (thanks, Harvey)
3:50 p.m. A nice remembrance of Ray appears on a Buddy Guy page at: http://bg.buddyguy.com/on-ray-manzarek/
3:50 p.m. A recollection of The Doors playing Alexandria Roller Rink Arena in Alexandria, VA on August 18, 1967 is recounted at DelRayPatch.com: http://delray.patch.com/articles/the-night-jim-morrison-returned-to-alexandria.
3:50 p.m. Jim Morrison won a Rolling Stone Readers Poll titled 'The Ten Greatest Rock & Roll Rebels'. Read the summary and see who else made the list (and were beat out by Jim) at: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/pictures/readers-poll-the-10-greatest-rock-roll-rebels-20130612/1-jim-morrison-0226764
3:50 p.m. Here is another mindless contest we can all vote in: Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame elections are on again. The Doors were runners-up the last two times. This time around, Round One pits them against The Band. This should be a no-brainer, and so far The Doors have a big lead. You can vote once a day at: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/the-band-vs-the-doors-ultimate-classic-rock-hall-of-fame/

10:55 a.m. John Densmore resumes his 'Unhinged' book signing tour with an appearance on June 29 at Reckless Records in Chicago at their 3126 North Broadway location at 2:00 p.m. (thanks, Jim)
