11:25 p.m. Robby Krieger Band played last Saturday night
at Good Hurt. You can see videos of the entire performance at:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3A6920BACC48DB51.
The photographer sharing these is Artski, who many of you may
remember was Robby's original webmaster. (thanks, Artski).
And by the way, the gentleman with the hat and beard who sang Roadhouse House is
one of the managers at the venue, and his name is Alec or Alex.
(thanks, Owen).
11:25 p.m. Another book! Daveth Milton has authored 'We Want The World: Jim Morrison, The Living Theatre and the FBI' is an "imaginative recreation of history that re-opens Morrison's secret FBI dossier ...". May
13, 2012 Robby show in L.A.
<> pix from Robby show
6:05 p.m. Robby Krieger Band played Good Hurt in West
L.A. last night with the jazz musicians that he has toured with the last few
years: Arthur Barrow on bass; Tommy Mars on keyboards; Tom Brechtlein on
drums; and Larry Klimas on saxophones & woodwinds. Stage
right was artist Norton Wisdom creating his interesting, morphing paintings.
Robby broke a guitar string during opener song Chunga's Revenge. Tommy
Mars said at one point that they have been writing together as a band, and
several of those songs were included in their set. Arthur Barrow sang lead
on one of those new songs. The set list went like this: Chunga's
Revenge; Let It Slide; Hothead (about Hosni Mubarik); What Was
That?; Cosmik Debris; Under Waterfall; Screen Junkie;
Russian Caravan; The Meek. Waylon Krieger then joined the band
on-stage for Back Door Man, handling lead vocals. The last song was a
rousing Roadhouse Blues. Waylon was still on stage, but vocals were
handled by someone I don't know (maybe someone will write & let me know who he
was! ... Owen?). Later I'll add some photos from last night.

2012 Ray does PSA <> vintange marquee photo <> Weird Al
10:45 a.m. Ray Manzarek has recorded a PSA (Public
Service Announcement) against drinking and driving which is currently being
played on radio station KLOS 95.5. You can supposedly download the audio
for the spot on the RADD site, although it didn't work for me. To try it
for yourself, scroll down to Metal / Rock area and right-click on Ray's name to
download file:

(thanks, Beverly)
10:45 a.m. A rare photograph of the Whisky marquee circa 1966 shows The Doors opening for Love. A musician friend who comes up with some amazing vintage photos recently posted this one on Facebook: photo (thanks, Morley)
10:45 a.m. Weird Al Yankovic parodied Jim Morrison on last year's 'Alpocalypse' release. In an interview in advance of a performance in Akron, Weird Al answered a question relevant to readers of this site: Q. Regarding “Alpocalypse,” any track stand out as being a magical moment in the studio? A. There were several. I guess working in the studio with Ray Manzarek was a big thrill. I did my song “Craigslist,” which is a pastiche of The Doors. I thought if I wanted to sound like The Doors, why don’t I see if Ray Manzarek will play on it? And to my amazement, he said yes. He gave me a big compliment by saying I did a dead-on impersonation of Val Kilmer trying to sound like Jim Morrison. The full interview can be read at: http://www.vindy.com/news/2012/may/07/weird-al-yankovic-is-getting-the-last-la/

April
27, 2012 Manzarek-Krieger in Anaheim
<> pix from Anaheim HOB
11:00 a.m. Manzarek-Krieger Band, with Dave Brock
on vocals, played to a sold-out
crowd last night at Anaheim's House of Blues. I did not write down
the set list, but the 1:50 set opened with Roadhouse Blues and the encore ended
with Light My Fire. For me, the musical highlights were a scorching
Who Do You Love, and the surprise rarity My Eyes Have Seen You. Ray's
brother Rick was onstage playing guitar for 2 or 3 songs, and their brother Jim
was on the side of the stage. During the LMF finale, Jim was also on stage
with his two brothers and the rest of the band. Check back later, I'll
upload a few photos from the show.
10:40 p.m. Manzarek-Krieger Band photos from last night at the Anaheim House of Blues can be found here.
