Doors news:
February
7, 2010 Santa Barbara screening
feedback <> WYS Director credit <> Venice Beach news
'When You're Strange' played to
a full or very near-full 680 capacity on Friday night
at the Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara, according to an attendee. John
Densmore was there, as already reported. John introduced Pam's mother and
the siblings, nieces and nephews of both Jim and Pam, as well as Bruce Botnick
and his wife. John told the story of when he and Robby were living up on
Wonderland Avenue when a depressed Jim dropped by; they told him to take a walk
to the top of the hill and he returned with the lyrics of 'People Are Strange',
which John recited. There was huge applause at the end and everyone stayed
and sat through the credits. (thanks, P & G)
I have noticed that 'When You're Strange' Writer & Director Tom DiCillo's name no longer appears prominently on the latest poster for the film, as shown on the official website at: http://www.whenyourestrangemovie.com/. Johnny Depp's name has been added as narrator and, of course, his star power should be included and touted on the poster. His narration is important, maybe even critical ... but DiCillo wrote the script that Depp narrates. Should the "Directed by Tom DiCillo" line be totally removed, fer crissakes? We would have nothing without DiCillo. Am I the only one who feels this needs a sanity check?
A movement is underway to name the proposed plaza on Dudley Avenue outside the Venice West Cafe location, after Jim Morrison. This ties in with other recent stories about efforts to have that building site given historical status. The story about the plaza naming appears in the free local Venice Beachhead paper, February issue. The story is challenging to get to directly, so I have copied and pasted it onto a new page and am hopefully giving proper credit to the source document. Read the full story here. (thanks, Ben)

4, 2010 Doors exhibit at Grammy Museum
In April 2010, the Grammy
Museum at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles will
launch an exhibit honoring Hendrix, Joplin and The Doors. The Doors
official website homepage has a scroll now about the future exhibit and is
giving fans the opportunity to loan important artifacts, which reads: Call
for Doors memorabilia for the Grammy Museum! April 2010, The GRAMMY
MuseumŽ in Los Angeles, California will launch a one-of-a-kind exhibit taking
visitors into the hearts, minds and music of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and Janis
Joplin. In order to make this "Strange Kozmic Experience" complete, the
museum needs YOUR help, the ardent fans and collectors! We want to find the most
important and meaningful Doors artifacts that exist and include them for the
world to see. If you own a piece of music history that you think should be
included, and would like to see your name on a plaque next to the words
"Graciously on loan from the private collection of ________", please send us an
email with a photo and description of your artifact, to
StrangeKozmicExperience@gmail.com.
It's important to note that often once an artifact
is displayed in a museum, its value increases. All artifacts will be insured,
properly secured and exhibited in Smithsonian standard temperature and humidity
controlled cases. The exhibit will run in Los Angeles for approximately one
year, after which your items will be returned or may be included (at your
discretion) in a tour of 8-10 national and international museums.
Although the Grammy Museum is nowhere near as large as
Cleveland's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, they have put on some great programs and
exhibits. I was there last night for an 'education course' on Elvis
Presley and the Birth of Rock & Roll, which ties in with some pretty amazing
photographs of him taken at the current 'Elvis At 21' exhibit. There were 39
items from my own personal collection on loan to the Rock Hall's "Break On
Through" Doors exhibit which ran in 2007 and 2008 and yes, it's a heck of
a thrill so see your name printed on those "on loan from" cards in the display
cases! The Grammy Museum's website is not advertising about this next
exhibit yet, but their URL is:
http://www.grammymuseum.org/
