Viento y Agua Gallery is pleased to announce Mr. Mojo’s Mandate, a photography exhibition of original and digitally enhanced images of Jim Morrison taken on July 15, 1967, when “Light My Fire” was becoming the number one song in the USA. These images from a Doors set at an LA rock festival are part of Jim Coke’s documentation of 1960’s counterculture events.

Coke rediscovered his original negatives some twenty-four years after he put them into storage. He then recognized the potential of creating a life-sized mural with newly introduced digital-retouching technology. The resulting “Jim Morrison: Scream Sequence” reflects the power and poetry of The Doors' frontman. The show will feature sections of this monumental work as well as recently developed smaller works. Join us for this celebration of Jim Morrison as a cultural force whose relevance continues to this day.

The opening reception will take place in honor of Jim Morrison’s 61st birthday and will feature musical and spoken word contributions:

Carlos Guitarlos—Blues survivor and musical leader of the legendary LA bar band Top Jimmy and the Rhythm Pigs. Carlos’ band will include Marcy Levy, the renowned vocalist and multi-instrumentalist known for her work with Eric Clapton and the Shakespeare Sisters.

Michael C Ford—poet, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize nominee and Morrison cohort at UCLA.

Chris Boyle—singer/songwriter, author, teacher and ex-Doors publicist.

Raindog —poet/tire biter and editor/publisher of Lummox Journal.

Jim Coke has exhibited his work at the Robert Berman and Zero-One galleries in Los Angeles and Michael Levy Gallery in Long Beach, among others in the United States. The Squ’art Collective in Paris and the fnac stores in Lisbon and Porto, Portugal, as well as the Photographer’s Gallery in Melbourne, Australia have also shown his photography.
