Robby Krieger Band review
JUNE 8, 2002: NEW YORK CITY – BB Kings Blues Club
EARLY SHOW
at BB Kings was very full, nearly sold out. The club is table seating, with standing in back at the bar area. My friends and I were seated at the third row of tables back from the stage.Robby appeared onstage wearing camouflage pants and an animal print shirt over a plain dark t-shirt.
The set began with Peace Frog, which he often mentions is the most-requested song in NYC. Not To Touch The Earth was a treat again, followed by LA Woman. The early show concluded with Roadhouse Blues, with some Dylan lyrics tossed in .. very unique.
Robby and some of the band appeared at the stage door for a few minutes and quickly signed / greeted fans before disappearing backstage.
entire set list: Peace Frog ~ Break On Through ~ Whisky Bar / Five To One ~ Snake Oil ~ Love Street ~ Revelation ~ Moonlight Drive ~ Wild Child ~ Not To Touch The Earth ~ L. A. Woman ~ Roadhouse Blues
LATE SHOW
- BB Kings announced that first show attendees were invited to stay for the second show (for free). My friends and I moved to a front table for the late show, and were right in front of Waylon. They came onstage 5 minutes early, at 10:25, & launched into Light My Fire.
I was delighted to hear Robby announce that the next song was the second biggest hit they had, and was a hit everywhere EXCEPT the U.S. ... I knew that meant they were going to do Mosquito. What a treat, I don't think I've ever heard them do that before.
They also did Changeling (vocals by Angelo), Crawling King Snake, Maggie M’Gill, Spanish Caravan and When The Music's Over ... the only song repeated from the first set was Peace Frog, their last one.
The show ended alot earlier than expected; RK announced that there was "another shindig" in the club and they had to finish up. That was disappointing, since we were expecting an extra-long second show. The club staff were pretty aggressive in getting people to exit so the next event crowd could enter; there were no autograph opps. From the line-up outside, I'd say there was an urban music dance club on deck next.
