CAMP FREDDY Joined By SLASH, WARREN DEMARTINI In Hollywood:
Report Available - Aug. 6, 2006
Slash (VELVET REVOLVER,
ex-GUNS N' ROSES), Warren DeMartini (RATT) and Billy
Duffy (THE CULT) are among the musicians that performed with CAMP
FREDDY last night (Saturday, August 5) at a private event being held at the
House of Blues in West Hollywood, California. Other guests at the concert
included Steve Isaacs, Steve Jones, Mark McGrath, Benji
Madden, and members of CYPRESS HILL.
Commented CAMP FREDDY guitarist Dave Navarro (also of THE PANIC
CHANNEL, ex-JANE'S ADDICTION, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS): "Robby
Krieger, guitarist from THE DOORS, came up and played 'Roadhouse
Blues' with us and Scott Weiland on vocals. It was truly amazing to
stand next to a member of one of my all-time favorite bands. Robby played
great too... He is still a kick-ass guitarist... This guy wrote 'Light My
Fire', for Christ's sake. He was rocking the SG and his tone was the perfect
'Roadhouse' tone. A-mazing!!! Steve Isaacs of THE PANIC CHANNEL
did THE CULT's 'Sanctuary' with Billy Duffy and AC/DC's
'Highway To Hell' with Duffy and Slash. He killed it! When
he broke into 'Highway', I was like, 'Where did THIS guy come from?' I
mean, he is the singer of MY band and I had no idea he was THAT METAL!!!!! Other
highlights were CYPRESS HILL on 'Rock Superstar' and a very
special version of 'Paradise City' with Slash. Warren DeMartini
of RATT came up and did 'Round and Round' with Mark McGrath
on vocals. Warren and I figured out all the little harmony solo bits and
it was just insane! Steve Jones of THE SEX PISTOLS came up and did
'Search and Destroy' and THE CLASH's 'White Man In Hammersmith'.
Benji Madden also got in on some CLASH with 'Should I Stay'.
It was a ridiculous night of rock and a lot of fun!!!"
CAMP FREDDY — the Los Angeles-based "jam" group featuring Navarro,
Billy Morrison (guitar; ex-THE CULT bassist, current CIRCUS
DIABLO vocalist) alongside VELVET REVOLVER members Matt Sorum
(drums) and Scott Weiland (vocals) — recently recorded several tracks for
the upcoming movie "Employee of the Month", starring Dax Shepard ("Punk'd").
The band laid down cover versions of CHEAP TRICK's "Surrender",
MARC BOLAN's "20th Century Boy" and DAVID BOWIE's "The Jean
Genie", two of which will make the soundtrack album. Produced by Mike
Clink and mixed by Andrew Scheps, the songs feature guest appearances
by guitarists Steve Stevens and Steve Jones.
CAMP FREDDY has been in and out of the recording studio over the past
couple of years recording what is expected to eventually be released as the
band's debut album. Among the cuts that are set to appear on the effort are
"20th Century Boy" and THIN LIZZY's "Jailbreak" (featuring
ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell on vocals and Billy Duffy
[ex-THE CULT] on lead guitar). Other guest musicians include RED HOT
CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith and singer Macy Gray.
