THE DOORS DEFEND RINGTONE MOVE

Two of the remaining DOORS members have defended versions of their band's songs as mobile phone ringtones - and haven't ruled out the possibility of accepting advertising deals. The band, who have famously turned down lucrative contracts in the past, blame dwindling radio airplay for the turnaround.

Guitarist ROBBY KRIEGER says, "I think ringtones are different. It's another way of having your song heard. "I feel the same way about advertisements, too. It's getting harder and harder to get your stuff on the radio to be heard, and there are a lot of different new ways to get it heard, whether it's advertisements or ringtones or any of those things. I'm not against those things."

Drummer JOHN DENSMORE adds, "We're not selling deodorant, and I'm sure that's where Jim would draw the line and get very upset. I'm positive about that." However Densmore admits he is interested in the idea of a Las Vegas-based attraction featuring the music of the Doors, claiming "it could be magic".
