The Willie Waldman Project
The Mint, Los Angeles    May 21, 2009

Robby Krieger and the Willie Waldman Project rocked The Mint in Los Angeles with two sets of improvisational jazz music on May 21.  An ongoing, mesmerizing art project occurred on stage behind Robby.

The Willie Waldman Project was comprised of Willie Waldman (Banyan) on trumpet;  Steve Molitz (Phil Lesh and Particle) on keyboards;  John Molo (Phil Lesh and Bruce Hornsby) on drums;  John Avila (Mutayor and Oingo Boingo) on bass;  and of course, Robby on guitar.  It should be noted that in the local ads for this show, Robby's name was always featured along with Willie Waldman Project name.

There were two sets with a brief intermission.  At the start of the second set, some new faces guested on keyboards and bass for a few songs but I have no idea who they were.

When looking at the photos from that night, be sure to check out the artwork behind Robby.  I regret that I did not catch the artist's name.  Using brushes, sponges, cloths and his hands, the artist constantly morphed the large board into interesting and unexpected images.

Parked in front of The Mint was a motorcycle bearing a Texas license plate:  DOORS1.  The tall gentleman in the green shirt pictured talking to Robby is the owner of that ride!

Robby played his new Gibson Signature guitar for part of the evening.  Afterwards, Marco Moir let me touch it (even hold it for a few seconds!).  I snapped a shot of Marco holding it up, along with a close-up of the serial number:  RK 001.  Sweet!
