BOOK SOUP HOSTS MORRISON / HENDRIX EVENT ON JAN 22

Books that relate to the life and times of two giants of the rock era, Jimi Hendrix and The Doors' Jim Morrison, are the focus of a unique book signing event set for next week.

Janie Hendrix and John McDermott, co-authors of Jimi Hendrix: An Illustrated Experience (Atria/Simon & Schuster) will be signing the book at Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood on the evening of Tuesday, January 22 starting at 7 PM. They will be joined by the legendary John Densmore, drummer for The Doors, who will be signing The Jim Morrison Scrapbook (Chronicle Books). The session will also include a moderated question and answer session open to the public.

Jimi Hendrix: An Illustrated Experience illuminates the live of the music icon who pioneered a new generation in rock and roll. It is a lavish, truly interactive experience, featuring a portfolio of Jimi Hendrix's original drawings, dating back to childhood, diary entries, rare handwritten song lyrics, and never-before-seen archival photographs. In addition to 30 interactive features, the book includes a 70-minute audio CD with interviews and commercially unreleased recordings of live concert music and a Record Plant jam session.

The Jim Morrison Scrapbook by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum's Chief Curator Jim Henke, captures the life, death, and enduring work of the Doors' legendary leader. It includes interviews with friends, family members, surviving band members and music industry figures, complemented by a selection of rare and never-before-published photos, 24 pieces of removable facsimile memorabilia, such as Jim's handwritten lyrics to "L. A. Woman" and his teenage artwork plus. Also included is a 60-minute CD comprised of rare interviews plus Jim telling candid stories and a never-before-heard original poem.

Janie Hendrix, sister of Jimi Hendrix, is CEO of Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., the family run company responsible for safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix through its ongoing management of the music and visual assets created by and associated with Jimi Hendrix. She is also the author of Jimi Hendrix - The Lyrics. John McDermott is world-renowned authority on the life and work of Jimi Hendrix and has been catalog manager for Experience Hendrix for the past thirteen years. He is co-author, with Billy Cox and Eddie Kramer, of "Jimi Hendrix: The Complete Studio Recording Sessions 1963 - 1970" and, with Kramer, "Hendrix: Setting The Record Straight." John Densmore continues to lecture and write and his musical career is currently focused on Tribaljazz, an eclectic ensemble he founded two years ago.
