February 1, 2012     Robby in tourney
Robby Krieger will play in actor
Patrick Warburton's Golf For Kids Tournament in early March.  Since so many celeb golfers are also rockers, it's no surprise that Robby is scheduled to be part of the "jam session".  The tourney benefits St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, the same charity who benefits from the Medlock-Krieger Invitation Golf Tournament and Concert.  Read the full story at:  http://www.mydesert.com/article/20120131/LIFESTYLES01/201300339/Celebrity-golf-tournament-Puddy-s-hands?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|Frontpage|p

January 21, 2012    LAW screening at Egyptian
Ray Manzarek & Robby Krieger, along with Bruce Botnick,
were the not-so-surprising "special guests" at last night's premiere screening of 'The Doors   Mr. Mojo Risin':  The Story of L.A. Woman' at Hollywood's beautiful and historic Egyptian Theater.  You don't need to hear my personal review of the film.  There are professionals who do that much better than I could, and the reviews are in abundance.  Besides, no one has ever accused me of being impartial about this band.  Instead, I'll relate the first-person experience from last night.  There was a VIP reception in the lobby area that preceded the admittance of the hundreds of fans lined up in the courtyard.  There was also a lengthy stand-by line for this sold-out event.  A table was set up inside to sell not only other Doors releases, but also the new LAW DVD ... so fans were able to purchase that four days ahead of its official release date.  Once everyone was seated, The Doors manager Jeff Jampol made a few opening remarks and introduced Elektra Records founder Jac Holzman.  Jac spoke for about ten minutes and then turned it over to local DJ legend Jim Ladd, who served as emcee.  Following the screening of the film, Ray, Robby, Bruce Botnick and Jac Holzman emerged from the VIP seats and took to the chairs lined up in front, along with Jim Ladd, for the audience Q &A.  I didn't write down everything from the Q&A, but here are some comments that stood out (or that I can read my writing).  Regarding the clever use of "billboards" to introduce each song, I'm pretty sure the answer was that it was Jeff's idea.  Ray called Robby the band's "secret weapon".  Jim Ladd praised Jac Holzman as a 'wonderful poetic soul' ...  Robby remarked that no other label "got them".  Jac then commented that he didn't "get them" either the first few nights, but that he kept going back.  When asked about the decision to record the band at their rehearsal workshop instead of the studio, Bruce Botnick said it was because they were most comfortable there.  Bruce also said that one thing done differently for LAW was that they worked on one song at a time, and finished it, before moving on to the next, instead of working one one song for awhile, then putting it aside to start work on another one.  Jac spoke about his decision to delay the release of the first LP until January, after the Christmas music season ended.  Elektra did not release any other LPs in January, so all their emphasis was on The Doors.  Jac also said that following Jim's death, he left the L.A. Woman billboard up for six months in tribute.  Someone asked if any of the LAW songs had been considered for inclusion on Morrison Hotel, and the answer was no.  It was Bruce Botnick's idea to put the whispers in Riders On The Storm.  Robby said that being on Elektra was great because it gave an aura of being an 'underground band', and that all the records he owned prior were from Elektra.  Oh, and "smart people liked The Doors".  Someone asked if they will play the Whisky again (they were there in August 2011) .. and Ray said "yes".  Ray then went on to say that in late June they are heading to Russia and Europe again.  They will play Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kiev and other European dates and that John Densmore is always welcome to join them.  Someone asked about the Oliver Stone film.  Robby and Ray both praised Val Kilmer's work and the music in the film, and Robby added that Kilmer should have won awards.  One under-informed audience member commented that Ray and Robby seem to be close, and asked 'do you not talk to John Densmore?"  (She has some sad historical catching up to do.)  Someone asked what they miss most about Jim.  Robby said that when Jim was around, 'there was always something happening!'  Ray added that he misses playing with Jim and John, and losing oneself in the power of the music.  As the Q&A session wrapped up, Jac Holzman said it was the best film he has ever seen about the making of a record.  Bruce Botnick added that there is a "holy grail" that will be let loose in the next few months.  They all posed for pix for a few minutes before exiting through the side door.  I thought the film was great and REALLY appreciated the opportunity to watch it on a big screen.  The DVD's bonus features were not screened last night and I have not had a chance to watch that yet.  I must comment that Robby was wearing a VERY cool shirt in the film's interview segments, and again last night.  I don't know if it is custom-made or a prototype for future merchandise, but I want one for myself!  It's a subtle pattern, so be sure to take notice of that when you watch the DVD.

 January 18, 2012     2012 Medlock-Krieger Invitational <> Skrillex
The annual Medlock-Krieger Invitational Golf Tournament & Concert will be on Monday, August 20 this year.  Once again, it will be at the Moorpark Country Club, and will again benefit St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.  It's way too early to be drumming up volunteers, but I'll let you know when it's time if you'd like to participate.

Skrillex cannot be ignored.  (I have been trying).  No apologies, I am not the 'target demographic' for his type of music anyway.  This video was released for "Breakin' A Sweat" featuring Ray, Robby and John: http://www.vevo.com/watch/skrillex/breakn-a-sweat/USQY51224268  Don't get your hopes up, John was NOT in the studio at the same time that Ray and Robby were.   :=(   I'm unsure if it is the same one I shared a few months ago.  Anyway, if this scene is your cup of tea, Skrillex has a bunch of L.A.-area dates in the near future: http://www.skrillex.com/  (thanks, Ruben)

Robby Krieger is featured on
GuitarShopTV in a 20-minute segment that originated in late October.  It begins with Jim Henke of Cleveland's Rock Hall discussing some personal Jim Morrison and family artifacts that appear to be on display.  Maybe it's a permanent installation.  Anyway, then Robby comes on and discusses how he came to use Gibson guitars and the models he prefers.  The segments finishes up with a clip of Robby performing at NYC's Iridium Jazz Club in October 2010, with Evan Marshall on vocals singing 'Roadhouse Blues'.  Check it all out at: http://blip.tv/guitar-shop-tv/gstv-episode-nine-the-doors-5692347

November 10, 2011    Ray & Robby in Albany
Ray Manzarek & Robby Krieger performed at the Kitty Carlisle Hart Theatre at The Egg in Albany, New York last night.  Lucky Fan Dave has attended three shows on the current tour, and decided to go for a fourth.  Dave reports that this weeknight audience was a lower-energy crowd than the first three shows he saw.  Set list: Roadhouse Blues;  Break On Through (with Dead cat, dead rats);  Changeling (with Chain of Fools, Mojo Workin', and Sunshine of Your Love);  Peace Frog / Blue Sunday;  Love Me Two Times (Ray stepped up to sing at Robby's mike);  When The Music's Over (dedicated to James Douglas Morrison);  band intros;  Alabama Song;  Back Door Man (Rick Manczarek on guitar);  band huddle;  L.A. Woman (Owen Goldman on cymbals).  Encore #1: Soul Kitchen.  Encore #2: Light My Fire, a shortened version with no bass, drum or percussion breaks.  Ray started his LMF solo under the Vox, and interrupted his solo to sign an album cover for a fan in front.  Dave's precise reporting tells us the show ran from 8:22 to 10:00 p.m.  (thanks, Dave)

November 6, 2011    Ray & Robby in Philly
Manzarek-Krieger played Keswick Theater near Philadelphia last night.  Very lucky fan Dave, who was catching his third show of this current tour, has shared his report.  The show ran from 8:14 to 10:04!  Here is the set list:  Roadhouse Blues;  Peace Frog;  Alabama Song;  Back Door Man (with Rick Manczarek on guitar);  Five To One;  Not To Touch The Earth;  band intros;  Soul Kitchen;  Indian Summer;  When The Music's Over.  Encore #1: Break On Through;  Riders On The Storm (with Hitchhiker poem);  L.A. Woman (with Owen Goldman on cymbals).  Encore #2:  Light My Fire  (with Ray, Owen Goldman, tech, Rick Manczarek on percussion & whistle).  Lucky Fan Dave says tonight's high energy show hit the stratosphere during Soul Kitchen.  Only an hour had passed when the band left the stage after WTMO, and then they returned for what he thinks was perhaps the best encore he's ever seen.  He felt Break On Through really killed, coming in later in the show instead of early when they are warming up.  Lucky Fan Dave also described ROTS as epic, from the beginning with Dave Brock reciting the hitchhiker lines, to the power ending.  Robby riffed Ghost Riders In The Sky in there, too.  Sounds like a stupendous show.  (thanks, Lucky Fan Dave)

===========================================================

November 5, 2011    Ray & Robby in NY
Manzarek-Krieger played the NYCB Theater in Westbury, New York last night.  A lucky fan who was there shared his report.  The show started at 8:20 and was plagued by problems with Ray's organ for the first three songs before it was finally fixed.  Ray said the goal of the evening was to play the same set list as The Doors did on April 19, 1968.  Here is what they played following the O Fortuna introduction:  Roadhouse Blues;  Peace Frog;  Alabama Song;  Back Door Man (Rick Manczarek on guitar);  Maggie M'Gill (Ray said it was not played in '68 but they were doing it as an 'extra' song);  Five To One;  Not To Touch The Earth;  Soul Kitchen (with snippets from Gloria);  Light My Fire (with Rick Manczarek & Owen Goldman);  When The Music's Over;  Indian Summer;  Break On Through.  The printed set list included Love Me Two Times and L.A. Woman, but those did not make the live set.  The report on this high energy show included more positive feedback about Dave Brock, who was 'just himself', sang well, and was not trying to be Jim ... similar to other fan comments.  The highlight for this lucky fan was when Robby walked off the stage during Light My Fire and did his solo right in front of him and his friend, who were in the front row.  Wow, I have never seen Robby do that before.  This band continues to evolve and improve their show!  (thanks, Michael)

===========================================================

November 3, 2011    Ray & Robby in Providence <> Robby & Ray tour Capitol Hill
Manzarek-Krieger played Lupo's Lounge in Providence, RI last night.  A lucky fan who was there described it as phenomenal, high energy, and said the crowd mix of both older and younger were really into it.  Craig has seen them four times before with Ian, Brett and Milijenko, and rates Dave Brock as good or better than those three!  High praise, indeed.  We don't have the set list to share, but the highlights for him were Waiting For The Sun, Soft Parade, Maggie M'Gill, and Indian Summer.  (thanks, Craig)

Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek and Dave Brock and Ty Dennis and Phil Chen all got to have a very special tour of Capitol Hill on Monday afternoon.  This happened before sound check for their show that evening in Alexandria, VA.  Read about how this happened at:  http://www.rollcall.com/issues/57_53/heard_hill_back_door_men_ray_manzarek_robby_krieger-209986-1.html

November 2, 2011    Ray & Robby in Red Bank <> Robby interview
Manzarek-Krieger played the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ last night.  Luckier than most, the fan who reported on Monday night's Birchmere show was also there last night.  He's going for a triple play and will be reporting on the show at the Keswick Theater on Saturday night.  This performance clocked in at just under two hours again, running from 8:19 to 10:07!  Love the precision.  Here is last night's set list: O Fortuna; Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Love Me Two Times; When The Music's Over; band intros; Alabama Song; Soft Parade (with Owen Goldman on percussion); Soft Parade reprise, with Ty Dennis & Owen Goldman switching places, allowing Ty to roam the stage with handheld percussion; Love Her Madly; Indian Summer (Dave Brock said it was the first time ever); Maggie M'Gill (with Rick Manczarek on guitar); Riders On The Storm; L.A. Woman (with Owen).  Encore #1: People Are Strange (a duo of only Robby and Dave Brock!).  Encore #2: Light My Fire (with Owen, Ray, and guitar tech on percussion, while Rick Manczarek danced and blew a whistle).  Ray's long and dissonant solo during ROTS brought the crowd to its feet, and he added a similar piece as a shimmering coda to the song's conclusion.  (thanks, Dave)  Another lucky fan also reported in on this show.  He described it as high energy playing to a full house.  There was plenty of chatter between Ray and Robby and the crowd, who commented on how they love New Jersey audiences.  This fan reported last night's to be the best of the six shows he has seen, and was very impressed with Dave Brock on vocals.  (thanks, Gary)

Robby Krieger did an interview with DigBoston.com ... and got asked a new, never-before-asked question!  Read it (and his answer) at:  http://digboston.com/laugh/2011/11/defend-yourself-robby-krieger/#more-106606

November 1, 2011    Ray & Robby in Tarrytown, NY <> Ray & Robby in Alexandria, VA
Manzarek-Krieger played Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY on Sunday night, October 30.  A lucky fan who was there for the almost-two hour show gave favorable feedback on Dave Brock on vocals, and shared the set list with us : O Fortuna; Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Strange Days; Peace Frog; Blue Sunday; When The Music's Over; Alabama Song; Back Door Man; Crawling King Snake (with Rick Manczarek on guitar); Robby flamenco solo into Spanish Caravan; L.A. Woman.  Encore: Light My Fire.  (thanks, Gerry)

Manzarek-Krieger played Alexandria, Virginia's Birchmere Theater last night, October 31.  A lucky fan who was there has shared the set list and comments: Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Love Me Two Times; When The Music's Over; Alabama Song; Soft Parade (with Owen Goldman on percussion); Love Her Madly; Crystal Ship; Changeling (with Chain of Fools, mojo verses and Sunshine of Your Love ending); Maggie M'Gill (with Rick Manczarek on guitar); Touch Me; Riders On The Storm (dedicated to Jim & Pam).  Encore: Light My Fire (with Owen & Ray adding percussion).  The fan reported it was a high-energy show with lots of intensity, especially on WTMO and Soft Parade.  Dave Brock introduced Soft Parade as the first time on tour (with no rehearsal).  A fan in the audience was introduced as a high school classmate of Jim's, so Ray joked about his age and looks.  The show ran from 7:36 to 9:16 p.m. (pretty precise reporting, LOL); the early start was due to a local noise ordinance.  (thanks, Dave)

The recent collaboration between DJ and producer Skrillex with Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore got a blog write-up in today's LA Weekly, complete with a few photos.  Read it at: http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/2011/10/skrillex_robby_krieger.php.   Here is a promo for the resulting film RE:GENERATION: http://www.youtube.com/hyundaiusa?x=us_regeneration_390_   (thanks, Roland)

Unseen color photos of The Doors and Jim Morrison at the Mt. Tamalpais festival in June 1967 are included in "A Perfect Haze: An Illustrated History of the Monterey International Pop Festival".  This is the newest book from noted rock journalist Harvey Kubernik and his brother Ken Kubernik.  The book includes some narrative contributed by Ray Manzarek about The Doors show at Mt. Tam, which took place the weekend before Monterey Pop.  The book's release date is November 1, and can be pre-ordered at: http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Haze-Illustrated-Monterey-International/dp/1595800603/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1318525648&sr=1-2  The authors are earmarking their proceeds from the sales of the book to the Monterey International Pop Festival fund.  (thanks, Harvey)

October 6, 2011    new film includes Ray, John & Robby
"RE:GENERATION" is the title of a feature film due out in 2012 which, among other things, features music from all three remaining Doors.  As I understand it from the following linked story which appeared today on RollingStone.com (and includes a trailer), they worked with a DJ & Producer named Skrillex (Sonny Moore).  According to the story, the film is co-produced by the Grammys.  It should premiere early in 2012, and will be a big part of Grammy Week next year including "Re-mix Labs" with the artists involved, as well as an event at the Grammy museum and screening that week.  So, stay tuned.  Meanwhile, read the full source story at: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/remaining-doors-members-record-with-skrillex-for-new-documentary-20111006

September 18, 2011     Robby & Alice Cooper at Whisky
Robby Krieger joined Alice Cooper on stage at the legendary Whisky last Thursday night, September 15.  Alice is in the middle of the "No More Mr. Nice Guy" world tour.  Apparently this is the first time he has performed there since 1969 with Led Zeppelin.  It sounds like it was quite the event, with Alice being joined by musicians as diverse as Steve Hunter, Tommy Henriksen, Orianthi, and Ke$ha.  'Break On Through' and 'Back Door Man' were the songs performed with Robby.  In the audience were Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine); Cheech Marin (Cheech & Chong); Paul Stanley, TommyThayer and Eric Singer (KISS); and Ian Astbury (The Cult, and former Doors of the 21st Century vocalist!).  The show was broadcast live on KLOS.  Here are links to the source stories: http://blogs.metrotimes.com/index.php/2011/09/city-slang-alice-cooper-hits-the-whisky/  and   http://www.billboard.com/events/alice-cooper-sticks-with-the-hits-at-nightmare-1005356272.story#/events/alice-cooper-sticks-with-the-hits-at-nightmare-1005356272.story  and  http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/alice-cooper-surveys-rock-history-at-the-whisky-20110916.  Here is an MP3 link on YouTube for 'Back Door Man': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE8YA_8dPpk&feature=player_embedded.  (thanks, Brad and Larry)

 September 4, 2011   Robby & James Cotton
Robby Krieger performed in Long Beach, CA last night as the special guest of blues harp legend James Cotton at the KJAZZ Blues Bash held at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center.  Very nice venue and easy to get to.  The program opened with a rocking blues set by Texas-based Shawn Pittman.  Next up was the sexy Ana Popovic, who was startling with her blistering guitar work.  She rocked it in a short, sparkly mini-dress that would have matched Robby's sparkly guitar strap.  The third act was Lil' Ed & the Blues Imperials.  Lil' Ed was fun to watch; he had some unique foot moves.  Headliner James Cotton is called a super-harp player for good reason.  He had a table full of them, and switched between them frequently to augment the singer's words and emphasis the song stories.  Finally, special guest Robby Krieger was announced.  From the whoops and applause, I was not the only one there to see Robby.  He played on three songs, but they were all nice long jams:  'Baby, Don't You Want To Go';  'Who's Loving You Tonight';  and 'Got My Mojo Workin'.  Robby was wearing one of those colorful pairs of pants from Loudmouth.com (who are sponsors of his annual Medlock-Krieger tourney & concert jam).  James Cotton Band photo  ~  Robby photo

Manzarek-Krieger Band played San Francisco's Regency Ballroom on Saturday, August 20 ... the night after they played the Whisky.  I love the opening lines of this story:  "I never thought that I'd hear those songs played live.  August 24, 2011    Robby tourney concert <> Robby & Eric Burdon <> Ray & Robby to Mexico <> NO Mexico tour <> Ray & Robby in Frisco
The Scott Medlock & Robby Krieger Invitational Annual Golf & Concert Event is now less than a week away.  Monday's event will benefit the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  The golf tourney will be followed by an all-star jam led by Robby.  L.A.'s Daily News ran a story yesterday about the event at: http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_18744397.   For more info, to buy concert tickets, to sign up for play, or just to donate to a good cause, go to: http://www.scottmedlockstudios.com/Invitational_Tickets.html

Robby Krieger toured with Eric Burdon in 1990.  I saw one or two shows, but not the free show played right on the beach in Ventura, CA.  I have a lousy quality bootleg of part of that show, so it's great to come across this very good quality 5-minute YouTube video of them doing 'House of the Rising Sun':  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjwdJAKehLI&feature=related

Manzarek-Krieger Band will return to Mexico for some late November tour dates.

Information update: Mexico tour dates in November are either cancelled or was misinformation.  Fuhgeddaboutit.

August 23, 2011    London Fog recording & pix <> more about London Fog <> Bataclan videos <> Uncut's L.A. Woman issue
The Doors Manager Jeff Jampol posted some exciting news a few days ago on The Doors forum about newly found recordings and photos from the London Fog.  Jeff's messages reveal that there is an excellent quality, reel-to-reel recording of the band done by a friend of Ray's from UCLA.  She also helped with an early Doors flyer which promoted folks to come to the London Fog to check out "Ray and Jim's new band!"  This lady also took lots of great quality black & white photos.  Among the songs performed are Little Richard's 'Lucille', which Robby told Jeff he has no recollection of them ever playing, as well as 'Strange Days'!  Apparently on Saturday night at the Manzarek-Krieger show at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco, Robby announced during the show that they recently acquired recordings of the London Fog shows which included lots of blues songs.  Robby also said they will be released later this year, but logically that type of release would be held off until at least 2012 so as not to conflict with the L.A. Woman Anniversary releases planned for later this year.  Other news shared by Jeff on the forum concerns a never-before-heard (or known about) Doors song described as a long-ish blues jam called 'She Smells So Nice.'  Jeff says it will be included in several (maybe all) of the L.A. Woman 40th Anniversary packages.  If you have the patience and tolerance to pick your way through the childish bickering on the forum, this information is contained within later pages on the BMA thread titled 'Great News on LA Woman Deluxe' which starts at: http://www.thedoors.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21343&st=0.   If anyone is nice enough to keep me updated on more revelations there, I'll happily share those here.  (thanks, Fred)

More info about that newly surfaced London Fog recording that Doors manager Jeff Jampol posted about on the Doors forum, and shared earlier today here:  it is one 30-minute reel, and will probably be released in 2012.  Better than nothing, and something exciting to look forward to!  (thanks, Fred)

Manzarek-Krieger's performance in Paris at Le Bataclan on July 3, can be enjoyed through a bunch of videos on this site: http://livevideobootlegs.blogspot.com/search/label/Ray%20Manzarek%20and%20Robby%20Krieger  (thanks, Gary)

The September issue of the U.K.'s "Uncut" magazine with the L.A. Woman cover story, has finally surfaced on our shores.  A friend alerted me that he found it in Barnes & Noble in his area, and I had the same luck at my local B&N.   It's nice to see the entire band featured on the cover.  Over the span of 13 pages, Ray, Robby and John talk about Jim's demise, his last testament, L.A. Woman, and the band's long strange afterlife.  Here is the cover to look for:  Uncut Mag Sept 2011  (thanks, Tim)

August 22, 2011    Whisky a GoGo last Friday night <> Ray & Robby in San Francisco
Manzarek-Krieger Band's Whisky performance on Friday night is dramatically chronicled by a Hollywood-based Examiner writer named Helen Darras.  All I can say again is thank goodness we got there early and secured our places at the barrier, which gave us open space (and air) in front of us.  Read the story at:  http://www.examiner.com/charity-events-in-los-angeles/whisky-a-go-go-the-doors-ray-manzarek-robby-krieger-helen-darras-collide-review  (thanks, Beverly)

Manzarek-Krieger Band's Saturday night sold-out performance at the Regency in San Francisco was re-capped for me by a lucky fan who was there.  Ray shared some comments about venues that they had played there in the 60's.  He also said they went up in January 1967 for the Human Be-In.  The band went on about 9:05 and played the following (possibly not in this exact order):  Roadhouse Blues <> Love Me Two Times <> People Are Strange, complete with a different arpeggio keyboard solo, rather than the record's melody solo (outstanding!) <> Alabama Song <> Crawling King Snake <> Peace Frog <> Blue Sunday <> Break On Through <> When The Music's Over <> Love Her Madly <> Hyacinth House <> 'sex machine' band intros leading into Touch Me <> Changeling with some Chain of Fools, Got My Mojo Working, and Sunshine of Your Love closing out the song <> Not To Touch The Earth <> Riders On The Storm <> Crystal Ship (Robby remarked "that's the first time we've played that!" ... presumably meaning with Dave) <> Soul Kitchen <> L.A. Woman.  It was 10:50 pm and the band left the stage, then they returned for the Light My Fire encore.  (thanks, John)

August 20, 2011    Ray & Robby at Whisky
Manzarek-Krieger Band blew the lid off the Whisky a Go Go on the fabulous Sunset Strip last night, as expected!  It was a great show, and the venue was packed to the rafters, also as expected.  Dave Brock has played the Whisky countless times over the years with Wild Child.  For the last year he has also been touring with Ray and Robby.  So, imagine what a thrill it must've been for him last night, to be standing on that stage with Ray and Robby!!  And it showed:  the band was on fire!  However, the evening did not start off on the highest of notes ... more on that later.  Beverly and I arrived early and were in the will-call line behind just one other couple.  This assured us of a good spot at the barrier in front of the stage.   Opening act Zen Rizing started on time at 8:00, followed by Kathryn Gallagher.  When KLOS deejay Jim Ladd introduced her, he said she is 17 years old and has 130 songs.  She was very impressive!  Jim Ladd returned to the stage at 10:25 to introduce Ray & Robby.   Cameras were strictly prohibited at this show, so there are no performance pix to share.  All I can offer are photos of the marquee, the oversize guitar mounted on the front of the Whisky, and the entrance of the club with the crowd control barriers in place.  That's my friend Beverly standing to the left of the door in front of the plaque.  After the 'O Fortuna' musical intro, the set list was: Roadhouse Blues <> Love Me Two Times <> Alabama Song <> Back Door Man, with some Crawling King Snake inserted <> Strange Days <> Ray & Robby reminisced about the go-go girls in 1966 <> Peace Frog <> Blue Sunday <> Break On Through <> When The Music's Over <> Love Her Madly <> Ray reminisced about when the band was fired from the Whisky <> Robby switched to his Rick Turner guitar for Hyacinth House <> 'sex machine' band intros leading into Touch Me <> Changeling, with some Chain of Fools, Got My Mojo Working, and Sunshine of Your Love closing out the song <> Not To Touch The Earth <> Riders On The Storm <> L.A. Woman (drum tech Owen Goldman on cymbals).  It was 12:20 a.m. and the band left the stage, then returned for the Light My Fire encore.  The show ended at 12:35 a.m.  I am a fan of judicious use of a strobe light; it was used sparingly but appropriately during Strange Days, Break On Through, and a few others.  Here are the set list & ticket stub.

Manzarek-Krieger Band played the Pacific Amphitheater
in Costa Mesa, CA on Friday night.  Dave Brock of Wild Child was the vocalist, and the band line-up was completed by long-time drummer Ty Dennis and long-time bassist Phil Chen.  I forgot to mention that Jim Ladd from KLOS introduced the show.  We had great seats but as luck would have it, a tall asshole who stood in front of me most of the night (and would not even remove his damn hat) blocked my sightlines and harshed my mellow.  Many spoiled photos resulted, but I managed to get some semi-decent ones.  Here are 16 photos.

Manzarek-Krieger's performance at Pacific Amphitheater is captured on some good quality YouTube videos submitted by user floreed2.  Check them out at: http://www.youtube.com/user/floreed2

Robby Krieger's artwork is included in an upcoming Daytona Beach, Florida exhibit called "105.9 SUNNY FM Rock Art Show".   The exhibit takes place at the Daytona Beach Kennel Club & Poker Room and will feature original art, lithographs, photographs, concert posters, gold records, album art and more from Robby and other classic performers such as Paul McCartney, Jerry Garcia, John Entwistle, Jimi Hendrix, Ron Wood, Bob Dylan, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Carlos Santana, Tony Bennett, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, U2, John Mellencamp, and dozens more.  There will also be rare rock photographs that will include The Doors, The Police, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bon Jovi, and Bruce Springsteen.  The Rock Art Show is free and open Friday, August 26 thru Sunday, August 28.  For more info and specific times each day, go to: http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_music_blog/2011/08/famous-beatles-animator-on-guest-list-for-rock-art-show-in-daytona-beach.html

August 6, 2011    Ray & Robby last night
Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger and Dave Brock and Ty Dennis and Phil Chen,
were all fabulous at last night's sold-out show at the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa, CA.  But then, you already knew I was going to say that, didn't you?  ;=)   I can be predictable about certain things, but there is a great review in the Orange County Register at:  http://soundcheck.ocregister.com/2011/08/06/pacific-2011-revisiting-l-a-woman-40-years-on/57587/.  There is a link to a slide show of pix from the show, but for my taste it's too heavy on photos of fans instead of the musicians.  The band took to the stage at 8:25.  As described in the review, the set list was: (O Fortuna) <> Roadhouse Blues <> Love Me Two Times <> Break On Through <> The WASP <> Back Door Man, with Waylon Krieger & Adrian Young <> Love Her Madly <> Peace Frog <> Blue Sunday <> When The Music's Over <> band introductions <> Crawling King Snake with Waylon <> Hyacinth House (stunning!) <> Been Down So Long <> Changeling, with some Chain of Fools, Got My Mojo Workin', and Sunshine of Your Love added in <> Not To Touch The Earth (interrupted by a dancing invader from the audience, promptly tackled and removed) <> 'sex machine' intros <> Touch Me <> L.A. Woman.  The encore was Light My Fire.  The show ended at 10:20, past the 10:00 curfew, so maybe there is a later curfew for Friday and Saturday shows.  I might post some photos later.  If you were there last night, let me know what you thought of it.  Maybe I'll share a few of the comments.

 August 4, 2011    Ray & Robby tomorrow night <> Robby on radio <> Robby's tourney & concert
Manzarek-Krieger with Dave Brock on vocals,
perform tomorrow night at the terrific Pacific Amphitheater venue in Costa Mesa, CA, located within the Orange County Fairgrounds. FINALLY ... it has seemed like forever since they have played local shows together ... October 2009, to be exact.  This venue seats about 8,500 and a quick check on available seating shows this show is almost sold out.  Sound quality is great and there are high-quality large screens to watch.  If you plan to attend, be sure to allow plenty of extra time due to Friday night fair-goers traffic.  Tickets say show time is 8:15.  There is no opening act, and shows start pretty much on-time due to a 10:00 curfew by agreement with the surrounding neighborhood.  Concert tickets include free admission to the fair, if you want to get there early.  However, if you will be looking for 'healthy' food, you may want to find someplace to eat before you arrive there!  http://www.pacamp.com/pa/schedules/2011/rr_doors.asp

Robby Krieger was a guest on Jim Ladd's radio program last night on 95.5 KLOS, according to a post on KLOS's Facebook page.  I did not hear it so I can't report on the conversation.  However, if you follow this link to Jim Ladd's website, you'll find a 2-minute clip from a local TV station that shows Jim Ladd visiting and reminiscing about Barney's Beanery, which apparently had its 90th birthday recently! http://955klos.com/showdj.asp?DJID=1579&pt=jimladd  (thanks, Beverly)

Scott Medlock & Robby Krieger's fourth annual Invitational Golf & Concert takes place on Monday, August 29 in Moorpark, CA, and this year benefits the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.  If you'd like to participate, sponsor, donate, or just attend the all-star concert that evening, this story gives more info: http://www.vcstar.com/news/2011/aug/02/all-tourney-proceeds-going-to-st-judes/?partner=yahoo_feeds  and the official site at: http://www.medlockkriegerinvitational.com/

 July 29, 2011     Robby's LMF <> Uncut magazine
Robby Krieger's classic 'Light My Fire'
is reminisced about on the Gibson website's 'This Day in Music Spotlight' feature today.  As he so often does, Robby gives a lot of credit to Jose Feliciano's arrangement.  Personally, I never cared for that version; I think Robby is being much too humble!  He wrote an unforgettable song that has never become tiresome!  The picture sleeve used in the story is on the Hit-ton label from Germany:  LMF b/w Crystal Ship.  I'm happy to have one of those in my own collection.  Read the story at: http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Lifestyle/Features/spotlight-0729-2011/

'L.A. Woman' is the cover story of the newest issue of the U.K.'s "Uncut" magazine.  It's nice to see the entire band featured on the cover.  Inside the issue, Ray, Robby and John talk exclusively about Jim's demise, his last testament, L.A. Woman, and the band's long strange afterlife.  Check out the cover at: http://www.uncut.co.uk/magazine   (thanks, Gilles)

July 21, 2011     Ray & Robby in Switzerland <> Ray & Robby in Belgium <> Ray & Roby in Tel Aviv
Manzarek-Krieger Band played Grand Casino De Bale in Basel, Switzerland last night.  A lucky fan who was there has reported in with the set list and show comments.  First, the set list:  O Fortuna; Roadhouse Blues; keyboard solo/Break On Through; Changeling; When The Music's Over; Love Me Two Times; WASP (Texas Radio & the Big Beat); Alabama Song; Moonlight Drive; Ray recited some Morrison poetry; Wild Child; Robby's Russian Caravan solo / Spanish Caravan; Not To Touch The Earth; Touch Me; Riders On The Storm; L.A.  July 18, 2011     Ray & Robby in Tilburg pix <> more Tilburg <> Ray & Robby at Pistoia <> Ray & Robby in Grado <> 'All Wood and Doors' interview
Manzarek-Krieger Band played Popcentrum 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands on Saturday night.  A lucky fan who was there has sent a link to photos on Flickr taken by Marco Maas:   http://www.flickr.com/photos/moaske/sets/72157627091649077/    The fan reports that the band had a lot of fun onstage, including laughing at the Dutch coffee shops 'where they sell fine coffee'.  Ray told the story of running into Morrison on the beach as the lead-in to Moonlight Drive.  Robby had some guitar problems, so Spanish Caravan got pushed back further into the set.  He also shared the set list which I'll list only once, in the next story.  (thanks, Roland)

Another lucky fan who was at 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands on Saturday night has sent along comments and the set list to share.  He described the acoustics in the venue as wonderful, and said each and every song was a highlight and sounded brilliant.  At one point, Ray asked for a spotlight on his brother Rick, who was having his birthday that day.  His brother, of course, was the Rick in Rick and the Ravens.  This fan wants to give very special recognition to Dave Brock, who he described as performing with great voice, timing and stage presence.  The set list is as follows:  O Fortuna; Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Changeling (+ Got My Mojo Working inserted); When The Music's Over; Love Me Two Times; Hyacinth House; Alabama Song; Moonlight Drive w/ Horse Latitudes; Wild Child-intro; Robby's Russian Caravan solo from 'Singularity'; Spanish Caravan; Not To Touch The Earth; Touch Me; L.A. Woman; encore: Riders On The Storm; Light My Fire.  (thanks, Dennis)

Manzarek-Krieger Band played Diga Nazario Sauro in Grado, Udine, Italy the next day, on July 10.  The lucky fan who attended both shows reports that this one was much better than Pistoia, and sent me this set list for Grado:  Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Strange Days; When The Music's Over; Peace Frog/Blue Sunday; Love Me Two Times; Alabama Song; Back Door Man (with Crawling King Snake and Ray's improv); Five To One; Love Her Madly; Not To Touch The Earth; instrumental improv; Touch Me; L.A. Woman;  encore:  Light My Fire.  (thanks, Simone)

'All Wood and Doors' musician James Lee Stanley gave a lengthy interview about that CD project, which has contributions from Robby Krieger and John Densmore, to article author Tim O'Shea for BlogCritics.org.  He also discusses his latest solo CD, 'Backstage at the Resurrection'.  Read it at: http://blogcritics.org/music/article/interview-musician-james-lee-stanley-on/.  Visit the website for the recording at: http://www.allwoodanddoors.com/instruments.html

Manzarek-Krieger Band played E-Werk in Cologne, Germany tonight.  A lucky fan who was there wrote to say it was a great 2-hour show.  Ray and Robby talked about the 40th anniversary of the L.A. Woman album, Bertolt-Brecht, Singularity, and many other topics.  This is the set list although the order may not be right:  Carmina Burana, Roadhouse Blues, Break On Through, The Changeling (+Muddy Waters' "Got My Mojo Working"), When The Music's Over, Love Me Two Times, Alabama Song, Five To One, Hyacinth House, Robby solo on Russian Caravan (from Singularity), Spanish Caravan, Not To Touch The Earth, Touch Me; encore: Riders On The Storm, L.A. Manzarek-Krieger Band played Incheba Arena in Prague, Czech Republic on Wednesday night.  The Prague Post ran a preview story yesterday in advance of that show:  http://www.praguepost.com/night-and-day/stage/9388-robby-krieger-and-ray-manzarek.html

Mudkiss is a U.K.-based on-line fanzine with two recent contributions by writer Nigel Cartner.  Nigel was in Paris for the July 3rd events, and also attended the Manzarek-Krieger show that night at Le Bataclan.  Nigel has sent me links for his two stories about his latest visit to Pere Lachaise:  http://www.mudkiss.com/jimmorrisions40thinparis.htm, and also the Manzarek-Krieger show that night: http://www.mudkiss.com/paristhedoorsshow.htm.  (thanks to Nigel Cartner from Mudkiss)

The Doors performed in June 1967 at the Fantasy Faire & Magic Festival at Mt.  July 10, 2011     Ray & Robby at Pistoia <> European tour YT videos <> Ray & Robby at Grado, Italy
Manzarek-Krieger Band's performance at Italy's Pistoia Blues Festival on Saturday was shortened due to problems the organizer had with the audience, according to a fan who was there.  The set list that was played is: Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Strange Days; When The Music's Over; WTMO reprised after audience problems; Peace Frog; Blue Sunday; Love Me Two Times; Alabama Song; Touch Me; L.A. Woman (with special guest James Burton); encore: Light My Fire.  Some of the songs eliminated from the set list were Back Door Man, Five To One, Gloria, and Riders On The Storm.  What a drag.  It would have been a real treat to get Gloria!  There will be more on this at a later date.  (thanks, Simone)

There are plenty of YouTube videos from the current Manzarek-Krieger Band's European tour.  Unfortunately, so many of them are shaky, fuzzy and un-watchable.  I don't know why they even post those.  Whatever.  Here are a few decent quality ones from Tel Aviv: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIHjKqFPPQY  and  Moscow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cMqqEXirjA  and  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOYPekY5gMw&feature=related

Manzarek-Krieger Band's Sunday performance at Diga Nazario Sauro in Grado, Udine, Italy went like this:  Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Strange Days; When The Music's Over; Peace Frog; Blue Sunday; Love Me Two Times; Alabama Song; Back Door Man (including Crawling King Snake and Ray's improv); Five To One; Love Her Madly; Not To Touch The Earth; instrumental improv; Touch Me; L.A. Woman; encore: Light My Fire  (thanks, Simone)

July 7, 2011      Doors in Guitar World list
Guitar World Magazine's August 2011 issue (cover: 100 Greatest Classic Rock Guitar Songs) includes two Doors songs in that list.  At #69 is 'Light My Fire', which quotes Robby as saying "To be honest, the solo on the album is not one of my better takes - I only had two tries at it.  But it's not bad; I'm glad that it was as good as it was."  Closing out the list at #100 is 'The End' with this info:  'Robby tuned down both E strings (double drop-D tuning D A D G B D) and used the open first & sixth strings as drones to emulate the sound of a sitar."   That is Greek to me, but I'm sure it's meaningful to guitar players!  Here is that magazine cover if you want to look for it: http://www.guitarworld.com/guitar-world-august-2011-disc-videos

July 6, 2011     more Pere Lachaise videos <> Hyacinth House at Bataclan <> LMF at Bataclan
Here is a 7-minute YouTube video showing Ray & Robby's full visit at Pere Lachaise, from winding their way through the crowds upon arrival, to lighting incense and candles, greeting fans, posing for photos, and small talk exchanged.  This is the best of all the ones I have seen:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41zdo1GWcNI&feature=player_embedded  (thanks, Gilles)

July 5, 2011     Pere Lachaise <> Le Bataclan set list & review <> Le Bataclan videos
Here are more links to news about July 3 at Pere Lachaise.  The stories all basically say the same thing, so I am just looking for those with different photos and videos to share here:  http://www.metro.co.uk/music/868167-jim-morrison-the-doors-singer-honoured-40-years-after-death  and   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC8n7yxBU6Y  (that is Jan Morris and Kerry Humpherys in the shot following the t-shirt close-up)  and  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgO_mmHe-QY&feature=player_embedded  (that is American-born photographer Michelle Campbell on the left in the blue shirt, speaking in English)  (thanks, Gilles and Beverly)

Ray and Robby's sold-out show at Le Bataclan is covered by a review and set list from an American who just got back home.  Set list:  Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Strange Days; When The Music's Over; band intros; Peace Frog/Blue Sunday; The Changeling; Love Her Madly; Been Down So Long; Cars Hiss By My Window; L.A. Woman; L'America; Hyacinth House; Crawling King Snake; The WASP (Texas Radio & the Big Beat); Riders On the Storm;  encore: Love Me Two Times; Five To One; Light My Fire w/ graveyard poem.  The band took to the stage at 8:30 to 'O Fortuna' and played in front of many projected images, movies, psychedelic effects the entire night.  There was also footage of Ray and Robby's visit to Jim's grave earlier in the day.  Six songs in, Ray announced that it was also the 40th anniversary of L.A. Woman, and that they would play it from start to finish.  Riders On The Storm was marred by a wave of people  jumping on stage (why, WHY?), resulting in band security and bouncers getting involved.  The show ended at 10:40, which means the audience got two hours & 10 minutes!  Of course, there had been many people outside clamoring for tickets when Dave arrived.  When he left later that night, the street outside the theater was packed with the fans without tickets who had been listening through the open doors.  (thanks, Dave)

Ray and Robby's Le Bataclan show is represented in some photos and video clips from a German fan.  The marquee at Le Bataclan simply read "Ray and Robby of The Doors" ... nice!   A photo of that marquee is included in this link: http://livevideobootlegs.blogspot.com/2011/07/ray-manzarek-robby-krieger-bataclan.html.  (thanks, Roland)

June 18, 2011       Robby at Whisky last night
Robby Krieger joined Wild Child onstage at The Whisky on the fabulous Sunset Strip for 4 songs during the first of two sets last night.  I love L.A.!  Wild Child (and Manzarek-Krieger) front man Dave Brock introduced Robby at 10:00 to a delighted and packed house.  (I should maybe mention that the Whisky is always packed for Wild Child shows).  Robby played four songs with the band:  'Touch Me' was followed by a spontaneous 'Robby chant', then 'L.A. Woman', 'When The Music's Over', and 'Light My Fire'.  The band left the stage at 10:45 for an intermission, and Robby left by the upstairs stage door during that break.  It has been awhile since I've been inside the Whisky, and I must mention some re-modeling that has occurred.  The security guy told me that the stage was just re-carpeted about two weeks earlier ... I'll bet the old carpet was disgusting.  More noticeable was the addition of 4 or 5 red vinyl booths at the west wall at the rear of the room, which used to be just an empty wall facing the stage.  The house announcer described those as VIP booths which can be reserved for a minimum of $100 or $200.  In addition, the downstairs has added a second bar on the south wall (Sunset street side).  The vintage poster of Jim Morrison which has hung behind the downstairs bar for decades has been re-located to above that new bar, along with a Hendrix poster, making them more visible. photo  I'm glad to see the Whisky has done a little upgrading, maybe in anticipation of the sold-out Manzarek-Krieger show on August 19.  Unfortunately, there has been NO upgrade to the small ladies room.  I'm guessing ditto for the men's room.  photo1 ~ photo2 ~ photo3 ~ photo4 ~ photo5 ~ photo6

March 19, 2011      Manzarek-Krieger in Morelia, MX <> Robby interview
I have not heard about the Manzarek-Krieger show in La Paz, Bolivia on Wednesday night, but according to the following link, Robby did not appear with the band last night in Morelia, Mexico.  I guess it's safe to assume he also missed La Paz, and will miss the tour's final show tonight in Acapulco.  I know all the fans hope that Robby feels better soon.  Check out a 15-photo slide show pix from Morelia at: http://www.demotix.com/news/628652/doors-concert-morelia-mexico.

 March 11, 2011     Robby update <> Guadalajara w/o Robby
Robby Krieger is expected to catch up with the Manzarek-Krieger tour after missing opening night in Mexico City on Wednesday due to illness.  Forrest Penner, who has played Robby's role in L.A. area Doors tribute bands, was able to (try to) fill his shoes in Mexico City.  I have not heard yet about last night's show in Guadalajara.  Tonight the band plays in Monterrey, Mexico at Arena Monterrey:  http://www.arenamonterrey.com/wtweb/web_page/

Robby Krieger did not make the Guadalajara show last night.  No word yet about whether he made it to tonight's Monterrey, Mexico show.  Follow this link for 8 photos from Guadalajara: http://www.doors.com.mx/doors/?page_id=912.  (thanks, Fernando & Rosendo)

March 10, 2011     Mexico City set list
Manzarek-Krieger's opening tour show last night in Mexico City was apparently without Robby, who was side-lined by illness and stayed home in L.A.  This tour features Wild Child's Dave Brock on lead vocals.  I do not know (yet) who is filling in for Robby on guitar.  Get well wishes go out to Robby!  The show's set list can be found on Mexico's fan site at: http://www.doors.com.mx/doors/?p=874  (thanks, Rosendo)

Robby Krieger accepting the Grammy onstage, and then talking to media backstage last night following the Grammy win for 'When You're Strange' can be seen starting about 40 seconds into this Artisan News YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwdxK7Hu9Yk&feature=player_embedded.  February 13, 2011    'WYS' won Grammy!!!! <> Robby pre-Grammy <> no 'Singularity' Grammy <> post-award pix
And the Grammy for Best Long Form Video goes to ... 'When You're Strange' !!!  OMG ...  It was the second award given in this afternoon's pre-televised ceremony.  Accepting were Producers John Beug and Jeff Jampol, and Robby ... also on stage were a gentleman from Eagle Vison and someone else not identified.  WOO HOO ...  one down, one to go.  Jeff Jampol made a point of also thanking Tom DiCillo.

It looks like Robby partook in some of the pre-Grammy festivities that have been going on all over L.A. during the last week.  This WireImage.com photo link indicates that he was at a Westwood One Radio Remotes room Friday backstage at L.A. Live (and wearing a Bright Midnight Archives t-shirt under his jacket!): http://www1.wireimage.com/GalleryListing.asp?navtyp=GLS====481021&c4nvi=3&str=12458&styp=clbi&nbc1=1.

It took three hours of sitting through the on-line broadcast to learn that Robby wuz robbed of the Grammy for 'Singularity'.  But to take the high road here ...  it is still an acclaimed recording, and he did garner a nomination for it ...  so we'll have to settle for that until his next nomination!  >=(     So ... once again, congrats to Robby for getting that far!!!  At least he had a turn on stage this afternoon as part of the 'When You're Strange' award acceptance 2-1/2 hours earlier.

Photos of Robby Krieger and Jeff Jampol on stage a few hours ago accepting the Grammy for Best Long-Form Video (DVD) are popping up.  Check it out at: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2011/02/grammy-awards-doors-guitarist-robby-krieger-says-grammy-winning-documentary-on-the-band-finally-got-.html.  Another photo of them posing after the award can be found at: http://themes.thestar.com/photo/01AP8bQ3hv9cvThe gentleman standing between Jampol and Robby is from EagleVision, but is mis-identified as producer Peter Jankowski.  No idea why the description says this took place on January 31, 2010 instead of today's date!  A better photo of the acceptance group can be found at photo #3 in the slide show on: http://www.torontosun.com/entertainment/music/2011/02/13/17261196.html.   I believe that the pre-Grammy telecast is going to be available on their website to view for 30 days, so look for that at www.grammy.com

 February 11, 2011    'Singularity'
If you haven't yet purchased your copy of the "Grammy-nominated" CD / LP 'Singularity' ... here is a link:  http://www.oglio.com/webs/pages/artists/manzarekkrieger_store.shtml.  You can also order Robby's 'Cinematix' CD as well as the soundtrack to Ray's film 'Love Her Madly'.   Just a few more days: Sunday afternoon we'll learn how the members voted.  Remember, the pre-televised ceremony which includes these two categories can be watched live on-line beginning at 1:00 PST at: http://www.grammy.com/live.

 ===========================================================

 February 9, 2011    watch non-televised Grammy awards on-line
This Sunday, February 13 could be a very
exciting day in Doors-land.  Will Robby win for 'Singularity'???   Will 'When You're Strange' win for the Best Long-Form Video (DVD)???  Those two award presentations will not be part of the Sunday evening telecast from Staples Center; they occur in the afternoon.  The Pre-Telecast Ceremony which will announce the awards in the 98 categories that don't get make the t.v. show can be watched on-line beginning 1:00 p.m. PST at http://www.grammy.com/live.   How thrilling it will be if either or both win ...  but what a thrill and honor to see both of them be nominated this year, regardless of the outcome!

 ===========================================================

February 7, 2011     'All Wood and Doors' update
'All Wood and Doors' is a forthcoming project from a musician named James Lee Stanley, in which Doors songs are rearranged for voices and acoustic guitars, bass and percussion.  Both John Densmore and Robby Krieger participated in this project.  I first reported about this on October 7 ...  refresh your memory by going to: http://idafan.com/all_wood_and_doors.htm.  The CD is finished and in the manufacturing process currently.  Expect a May release, and stay tuned for more release details as they become available.  (thanks, James)

January 20, 2011      Robby at Anthology <> Robby to the desert
Robby Krieger and his Jazz Band played an almost two-hour 12-song set last night at Anthology in San Diego.  The band actually took to the stage ahead of the 8:00 show time, at 7:40 p.m.  Robby shared that there are no more jazz band shows planned at this time before he heads out on the road with Ray for shows in Mexico in March.  You can find the set list here.  I'll get pictures added later on and re-post.

Robby Krieger will perform at a private show on Friday night in La Quinta, CA at the 2011 Bob Hope Classic.  Readers may remember that last January, Robby was one of the celebrity golfers who played in this prestigious golf tourney.  The jazz band's recent show commitments precluded him from participating this year, but he's heading there after last night's San Diego show and will jam with the golfers and other celebs there tomorrow night.

Robby Krieger's appearance at the Grammy Museum's 200-seat Clive Davis Theater next Friday, January 14, has less than two dozen tickets remaining to sell.  Following an interview, Robby will do an audience Q&A, then band members will join him for some live music.  If you live in the SoCA area, it'd be foolish to miss this rare opportunity!!!  For ticket info, call the Grammy Museum box office at 213-765-6803, or go to: http://www.grammymuseum.org/.

Manzarek-Krieger Band announced some intriguing tour dates on their Facebook page last night.  In addition to a return to Mexico for (so far) three shows, there is a show in Moscow, Russia on July 7.  What a great adventure this July tour will be for them!  The page promises more dates to be announced.  Dave Brock will be doing the vocals according to a Robby interview I linked to on January 2.  Keep up with the band yourself at:  http://www.facebook.com/ManzarekKrieger?v=wall.  The dates have been added to the calendar below.  December 8, 2010       Robby at Good Hurt <> Robby's set last night
Grammy nominee
Robby Krieger
and his Jazz Band appeared last night at Good Hurt in West L.A.  Later today I'll get the set list added here, and I'll upload some photos today or tomorrow.  It was a great rocking jazz set with a few Doors tunes added in, and several vocalists including Robby's golf pro friend, Tim Petrovic.  Robby announced at the end that Good Hurt is going to be their "home" club, and they will be playing there every three months or so.  That is something to count on and look forward to!

Robby's set last night at Good Hurt is described at this link. I still haven't gotten my photos organized, so when I add them to the review, I'll re-post the information.

December 2, 2010     Grammy nominations for WYS & Robby
'When You're Strange' Writer & Director Tom DiCillo has posted new blog #86: 'Grammy Nomination' this morning in response to news of the film's nomination: http://www.tomdicillo.com/blog/?p=351.  As I wrote last night, WYS is nominated for Best Long-Form Video (DVD).  If you want to see the competition in that category, scroll down to category #109 nominees.  Similarly, if you want to check out Robby's 'Singularity' competition for Best Instrumental Pop Album, scroll to category #10.  I wonder how Robby feels about the 'Pop Album' category, since 'Singularity' is most definitely jazz-y.  Whatever!  All categories and nominees can be found at: http://www.grammy.com/nominees.  The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will take place in L.A. on February 13, 2011 at Staples Center, and will air live on CBS.  Many of the categories will be awarded separately in the days leading up to the big ceremony.

 November 25, 2010       Robby's early music
While Robby Krieger was at L.A. radio station 100.3 The Sound on Sunday night for the "My Turn" hour-long deejay stint, he also recorded a segment about his early music experiences in school.  Who knew that Robby took trumpet lessons?  And played bass drum (for awhile) in the school band?  Listen to this 3-minute clip at:  http://www.thesoundla.com/?nid=66&sid=2031

November 21, 2010     Robby on the radio <> Robby 'tone tip'
Robby's hour-long radio gig this evening was a very cool listen!  The program kicked off with 'Break On Through', then Robby introduced 'Talkin' Hard Work' by Woody Guthrie.  Lead Belly's 'Fannin Street' by (I think) Dave Ray was next.  Robby spoke about Bob Dylan being one of his heroes and played 'Baby Let Me Follow You Down'.  He pointed out that the words 'follow me down' appear in both of those foregoing songs, then followed that with the example of his own use of those words in 'Tell All The People'.  He said that was written in '69 after Jim's Miami bust and he felt it to be a 'call to arms'.  Before playing John Coltrane's 'My Favorite Things', one of his faves, he invited chord comparisons to 'Light My Fire' ... and then followed up with that song.  'Coffin Dodger' from Singularity was next, explaining the title as being about how he has managed to "dodge the coffin" so far (and aren't we glad!).  Introducing the next song, he said it was the first song they ever recorded at Sunset Sound which he described as austere and cold, not conducive to making music, so they added curtains and candles.  He mentioned the East Indian vibe of 'Indian Summer'.  It was nice to hear that one, it's lovely but overlooked.  My fave tune from Singularity followed: 'Southern Cross'.  It's got such a nice groove to it.  Robby mentioned that it was co-written with Arthur Barrow, and that he feels it would be a perfect movie soundtrack!  The hour ended too quickly with the final track played being 'The End.'   I don't know if they archive the shows, but if they do, it's worth a listen if you missed it: http://www.thesoundla.com/

Robby Krieger headlined the music portion of Monday's 3rd Annual Scott Medlock & Robby Krieger Celebrity Concert & Golf Classic to benefit the Pat Tillman Foundation at Moorpark Country Club in Moorpark, CA.  I was there all day as a volunteer for the golf event, and therefore was on hand to attend the concert that evening.  Robby performed with three singers, two keyboardists, three drummers, three bassists, two horn players, two mouth harp players, one artist, and I've probably missed one or two other musician shifts.  Read all about it here.

Robby Krieger is featured in an article in the current issue of 'Quick Throttle', a free magazine available at southern California Harley-Davidson dealers.  Apparently there is different content printed for other regions.  Robby participated in the first SoCA Love Ride, and plays again at the one scheduled for this coming Sunday.  Check out this digital version: http://www.quickthrottle.com/DigitalMagazines/CA_November2010/133797/default1.html?seq=120572&path=100429014907?startpage=5  (thanks, Kathy)

The 'All Wood and Doors' project that I wrote about on October 7, is now in the final mixing stages.  I will soon have an URL to share where the music can be heard once it is finished.  This is a CD of classic Doors songs rearranged for voices, acoustic guitars, and bass and percussion created by James Lee Stanley and Cliff Eberhardt.  Both John Densmore and Robby Krieger have contributed to this project.  Check out 'All Wood and Stones', the first project in this ilk from James Lee Stanley which covers 11 classic Rolling Stones songs: http://www.allwoodandstones.com/

Robby Krieger often joins Particle when they play locally.  That happened again earlier this month when Particle played a 10th anniversary show at the Roxy.  Particle keyboard player Steve Molitz spoke about that show on JamBands.com, and included some musings on the legacy of Robby and of The Doors.  Read it at:  http://www.jambands.com/features/2010/10/28/don-t-mess-with-mister-in-between-travels-with-particle-s-steve-molitz.

October 21, 2010     Robby at Havana <> Robby in High Times
An Evening With Robby Krieger at Havana in New Hope, PA on Tuesday night was an entertaining blend of music genres.  Robby was accompanied by Tommy Mars on keyboards, Tom Brechtlein on drums, Larry Klimas on woodwinds, and his long-time friend and collaborator Arthur Barrow on 5-string bass.  For the set list and show details, go here.  I'll try to get some photos uploaded in the next day or two.

Robby Krieger's interview in the December 2010 issue of High Times is a good one, with three great photos of him.  I was surprised to find it already available for sale last week, even in my little home town in New Jersey.  Be sure to check it out.  Once again, here is the cover with his name prominently displayed under the magazine title, and to the right of a righteous looking bud: http://hightimes.com/magazine/ht_admin/6742.  "Transcendent and timeless, psychedelic and poetic -- the music and mystique of the Doors epitomized the hedonism and rebellion of the late '60s and forever transformed American consciousness and culture.  Now, for the first time ever, the band's legendary guitarist, Robby Krieger, talks to HIGH TIMES about music, Morrison and, of course, marijuana."

October 20, 2010     Robby at Havana
Robby Krieger and friends played Havana Restaurant in New Hope, PA on Tuesday night, October 19.  This was a fantastic stroke of good luck for me, because New Hope, PA is just across the Delaware River and about 15-20 miles from the small New Jersey town where I was born and raised (Three Bridges / Flemington).  My week-long visit there had already been planned for a year!  One of my sisters lives two miles from that venue, which is where I stayed after my reunion weekend festivities ended.  So as luck would have it, I was able to attend Robby's nearby show along with both my sisters.  We popped into the club in the afternoon when the band was doing sound check, and I introduced Robby to the other 'Miller Girls' in advance of the show that evening.  Manzarek-Krieger tour veteran Owen Goldman was there, and Evan Marshall was on hand to take care of the vocals.  (Both of those Los Angelenos were also born and raised in New Jersey, coincidentally!!!)  I will share the set list and some photos tomorrow as I catch up.  As always, Robby graciously parked himself at a table after the show to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans.

October 2, 2010     Robby & Michael C. Ford today!!! <> more benefit info
Robby Krieger and poet Michael C. Ford (and others) are performing this afternoon in West LA (Westwood) at a benefit for an animal rescue and bird preservation sanctuary.  This happens at 3:00 today (Saturday) at the Veterans Admin Building on Wilshire Boulevard, just off the 405 freeway, and next to a baseball field on Eisenhower Avenue.  Sorry for the late notice, I just found out!  I will get more details on this overnight, which means I will post more information here in 8 or 9 hours including maps and confirmation of the location address.

More info on this late-notice Robby appearance with Michael C. Ford:  it happens today starting at 3:00 in the Parrot Sanctuary at Serenity Park at Vets Stadium, West L.A.  This is behind Jackie Robinson Stadium (think: right field).  A map and directions can be found at: http://www.parrotcare.org/uploads/Map_to_Serenity_Park.pdf.  This is a benefit, and admission is something like $50.  Unfortunately, I cannot find a specific link with more info about that.  On the website for www.parrotcare.org is a link for Event Registration, which is as helpful as it gets:  it is billed as 'Open House - Swingin' Event' with beverages and tours from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., followed by food and performances from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Robby Krieger and poet Michael C. Ford performed this afternoon at the Serenity Park Parrot Sanctuary in West L.A.  Michael has a long collaborative history with both John Densmore and Ray Manzarek on various appearances and projects, but the first and only time that he and Robby ever performed together was during the summer of 1969.  Jim Morrison was also there, it was at Cinematheque 16 in Hollywood during a benefit designed to raise money for Norman Mailer's run for mayor of NYC.  That history was re-visited this afternoon at this interesting sanctuary housing dozens of rescued, seized, or otherwise surrendered parrots, and the grounds included a wolf who freely roamed and mingled!  Michael and Robby opened the event with three numbers.  During the first song, Robby played 'L.A. Woman' while Michael recited.  The second poetry performance was 'On Account of Rain' with musical accompaniment from Robby, and the last was Michael's poem 'Chicago Song' which Robby instrumentally enhanced with 'Love Me Two Times'.  They were followed by Bonnie Tamblyn & Blue Heaven.  Michael and Robby intended to return to do one or two more songs with Dave Brock (of Wild Child) on vocals ... unfortunately, Blue Heaven seemed to play long and Robby needed to depart, so that was that.  Actor James Cromwell (Ruth's second hubby on 'Six Feet Under', and much much more) was also at the event.  I have not downloaded my photos yet; if any turned out decent, I'll share within a few days.

September 18, 2010     'OTR' off the sked <> Robby in two film projects
Robby and Ray had previously been listed as the featured conversation on Sunday's "Off The Record" syndicated radio program.  I was going to do a reminder about it but when I checked the link at: http://unclejoe.com/xotr.html, I see that it is no longer in their current schedule line-up.  I hate when that happens.

Robby Krieger is a contributor in a new film called 'Turn It Up', described as "flat-out fun and a star-studded celebration of the electric guitar."  Robert Radler is the film maker, and he also recruited Les Paul, Slash, Paul Stanley, Nancy Wilson, and Dave Mason, among others.  Read all about it in this story from the Ventura County Star at:  http://www.vcstar.com/news/2010/sep/18/ode-to-an-early-love-guitars/

'Rockin' The Wall' is another film project that Robby was a part of.  This one is a documentary about rock music's role in ending the Cold War, and apparently just had its debut in Dayton, Ohio where film maker Larry Schweikart is based.  Read more about this one at:  http://www.daytondailynews.com/business/ud-professor-aims-to-be-movie-mogul-927519.html

August 27, 2010       Robby & IOW screening <> Ray & Robby on OTR <> Robby & Ray on Planet Rock & WYS contest
Robby Krieger was at Hollywood's Egyptian Theater last night for the screening of 'Message To Love', the Murray Lerner-directed film about the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival.  'Message To Love' contains partial and darkly-lit performances of 'When The Music's Over' and 'The End'.  Ray Manzarek was named in recent stories to also be on hand, along with Keith Emerson of ELP and Glenn Cornick of Jethro Tull, but only Robby was there along with Lerner.  Robby and Lerner were interviewed after the film about their recollections of the event by Martin Lewis, the Mods & Rockers Film Fest producer.  Robby said they were not asked to play Monterey, and that they did not like the idea of playing outdoors where it was hard to contain the sound.  He said Ray takes the blame for not playing Woodstock, believing no one would show up at the upstate NY location.  Robby said there were no sound checks at IOW.  Lerner said the reason it took so long for the IOW film to be released was because CBS did not think The Doors, Hendrix and The Who were 'commercial enough', and that he himself was not a good enough salesman.  The fantastic news that came of this interview was that Lerner said he IS planning to release a film of the entire Doors performance, and that 'he is getting somewhere' on that.  He has released other full performances such as Leonard Cohen, which screens on Sunday night in Santa Monica, and there are others planned, as well.    Following the interview, Robby was surrounded by fans so a table was set up in the lobby for him to sign stuff during the intermission.  After the break, there were some out-takes shown of IOW performances not included in the film, so we saw a partial performance of Light My Fire which went up to mid-solo, along with footage of Melanie, ELP, Jethro Tull, Donovan, and The Who.  Next up was Lerner's Miles Davis 'Miles Electric' film.  I saw Mr. Lerner in the lobby when I left near the end of 'Miles Electric' and asked him if he knew why The Doors were lit so dimly; he said that was what Morrison wanted.  I questioned him again about the release of the Doors footage and assured him that Doors fans want to see it in full, regardless of how well or how poorly the footage is lit.  He said he is "trying to" get that released.  I did not feel it was my place to inquire about what the obstacles are to the release.  Mr. Lerner is no spring chicken, so I hope this does not take too long.

Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger will be on 'Off The Record' on Sunday, September 19.  This is a nationally syndicated show.  Affiliate stations are listed on the OTR website at: http://unclejoe.com/xotr.html

August 25, 2010       Ray & Robby appearance <> more about 'Message To Love' <> Robby & Blue Coupe
Ray and Robby are mentioned as being in attendance at tomorrow night's double-bill screening of 'Message To Love' and 'Miles Electric' at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, as part of this years Mods & Rockers Film Festival.  'Message To Love' director Murray Lerner is also named to be there.  I'll let you know if they are there ... I've had my ticket for weeks!  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brad-schreiber/mods-and-rockers-film-fes_1_b_692058.html?ir=Arts

Another story about Thursday night's screening of 'Message To Love' from the 1970 Isle of Wight 1970 festival also mentions that Ray and Robby will take part in a Q&A after the film screening, and before the Miles Davis film:  http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2010/08/mods-rockers-film-festival-2010.html.

Robby Krieger contributed guitar parts that have been used for two songs on a forthcoming CD by Blue Coupe.  Blue Coupe is a new collaboration by brothers Albert and Joe Bouchard, founders of Blue Oyster Cult, along with Dennis Dunaway from Alice Cooper.  They have four more songs that they did not put on this first CD, including one that Robby wrote.  'Tornado On The Tracks' is due out on September 30.  Go to their website at: www.bluecoupeband.com to learn more about Blue Coupe.  (thanks, Al)

August 22, 2010       Ray & Robby in Mission Viejo
Manzarek-Krieger played last night at Lake Mission Viejo, CA.  It was a private concert for the residents of Mission Viejo and their guests.  Dave Brock of Wild Child handled the vocals, as he did the week before at Rockstock in Chatham, Ontario, Canada.  I was fortunate to be at this show.  They played a 90-minute set beginning at 8:00 and went right up to the community curfew of 9:30.  The band was cooking on all burners last night.  A fantastic show with an all-ages audience.  Dave Brock more than ably handled the front man role all night: it fits him like a glove.  Here is the set-list: O Fortuna ~ Roadhouse Blues ~ Break On Through ~ Strange Days ~ Love Me Two Times ~ When the Music's Over ~ Peace Frog ~ Blue Sunday ~ Moonlight Drive / Horse Latitudes (Ray) ~ Wild Child ~ Alabama Song ~ Back Door Man with some Crawling King Snake ~ Robby flamenco solo ~ Spanish Caravan ~ Not To Touch the Earth ~ Touch Me ~ L.A. Woman ~~ encore:  Light My Fire.  After Strange Days concluded, Dave Brock looked to his right, and looked to his left, and then said "somebody pinch me" ... everyone knew what he meant!  Lake Mission Viejo has a LOT of rules about conduct at their concerts, and one strict rule is that everyone must remain seated on their blankets and beach chairs during the performance; i.e., NO standing, and certainly no dancing!  Ray and Dave encouraged the audience to get up on their feet several times.  At first there was reluctance because of those strict rules and the security ... but eventually common sense won out, and everyone was on their feet and dancing for the second half of the show -- rules be damned.

 August 20, 2010       Robby interview <> Ray & Robby L.A. Woman
Robby Krieger discusses new technology, obsolescence, and recording with his son Waylon's band Darkroom in a new interview posted at: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2010/aug/20/robby-krieger-the-doors.  The DVD and Blu-ray release info tacked on at the end pertains to the U.K.  Those have been available in the U.S. for several months.

A lucky fan who was at Rockstock last Friday, wrote to share the set list that he took.  Here it is: Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through w/dead cats dead rats; Strange Days; When The Music's Over; Peace Frog; Blue Sunday; Moonlight Drive; Horse Latitudes (sung by Ray); Wild Child; Alabama Song; Back Door Man w/ Crawling King Snake; Love Me Two Times; Robby's flamenco solo / Spanish Caravan; Not To Touch The Earth; Touch Me; L.A. Woman   encore: Awake; Riders on the Storm; Light My Fire. (thanks, Matt)

The Woodstock Korea event that was supposed to have happened on August 6 at DMZ Peace Park, got canceled the week before!  No wonder I never heard anything about the Manzarek-Krieger set!  Here is a story link that sums it up: http://www.woodstockstory.com/woodstock-korea-2010.html  (thanks, George)

August 14, 2010       Rockstock reviews and clips
Manzarek-Krieger performance last night at Rockstock in Chatham, Ontario, Canada with Dave Brock of Wild Child on vocals has garnered great reviews as well as several video clips of songs from the show.  A review can be found at: http://firefox.org/news/articles/3352/1/Concerts-Ray-Manzarek-and-Robby-Krieger-of-the-Doors----Subway-Rockstock-For-the-Heart-Tecumseh-Park-Chatham-Ontario-August-13/Page1.html.  To see a clip of them doing 'Break On Through', go to:  http://www.chathamdailynews.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2713713.  To see a clip of them doing 'Peace Frog', go to:  http://www.chathamdailynews.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2712572.  It sounds (and looks) like it was a smokin' hot performance that did not disappoint on any level.  Ray and Robby really appeared to be in the groove and cooking on all burners.  Dave Brock certainly knows how to perform those songs!  It probably doesn't get much better unless John Densmore was on stage. Since that is not likely to happen, it was nice to see the reviewer give some well-deserved kudos to Ty Dennis on drums and Phil Chen on bass.  (thanks, David and Jan)

August 9, 2010       film double-feature <> Robby interview <> new Robby Gibson interview
The Doors at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival (and other performances) are captured in 'Message To Love', which is showing on Thursday, August 26 in Hollywood at the Egyptian Theater.  The blurb says: Includes The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Jethro Tull, ELP, Free, Ten Years After, The Moody Blues, John Sebastian, Donovan, Joni Mitchell, and Leonard Cohen. Plus previously unseen outtakes!. This event is a double-feature which is paired with 'Miles Electric', a 90-minute documentary about Miles Davis.  The blurb on this one says: Incredible documentary capturing Miles Davis at the height of his "Bitches Brew" jazz-rock-free-form fusion best. Built around Davis' legendary Isle of Wight performance with a band that included Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett, the film provides insight into his groundbreaking odyssey into electric music. Includes interviews with Carlos Santana and Joni Mitchell. Discussion between films with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger (The Doors), Keith Emerson (ELP), Glenn Cornick (Jethro Tull) and director Murray Lerner.  For more info or to buy tickets, go to:  http://www.americancinematheque.com/archive1999/2010/Aero/Rock_Docs_Aero_2010.htm

August 1, 2010       John's book troubles <> Robby is 'featured artists' <> Brandino interview <> Ray & Robby interview <> DiCillo on radio
John Densmore has another legal battle on his hands, as I first reported on July 15 based on a story posted on http://www.courthousenews.com/2010/07/15/New_Complaints.htm.  John has recently posted a statement about this on his website forum at:   Hello friends. I just want to catch you up on a recent development.  You may have heard about my new book project.  Yes, I have written a book about some recent experiences of mine in the Doors, including the actual experience of the trial with my band-mates.  It is titled “The Doors: Unhinged – Rock n’ Roll Goes Up On Trial.”  Unfortunately, without a written agreement or my authorization, a publisher announced the forthcoming publication of the book as part of its catalog, and pre-orders were even being taken on-line.  The book is basically finished, but there is no written publishing agreement.  The premature announcement of publication forced me to file a suit to prevent the unauthorized release of the book.  I am hopeful that the matter will be resolved soon, which seems to be the case, and that my literary agent will soon reach an agreement with a new publisher.  I am as excited about getting the book published and “out there” as are you to read it, but all these legal issues about publication now have to be “cleaned up”.  I’ll keep you posted, and thanks for all your continued support,  john d.  (thanks, Jim)

Manzarek-Krieger played last night in Tienen, Belgium at Suikerrock (Sugar Rock) Kickoff Festival, the last night of their European tour.  According to a lucky fan who was there, M-K did a short but excellent set which consisted of (but not chronologically listed): Strange Days, Break On Through, When The Music's Over, Not To Touch The Earth, Alabama Song, Love Me Two Times, Peace Frog / Blue Sunday, flamenco solo / Spanish Caravan, Light My Fire.  During LMF, Ray joined Ty with a drumstick hitting cymbals, and eventually everyone was dancing around in a circle, which the fan likened to Jim's Indian dance.  A link to photos can be found at: http://www.suikerrock.be/2010/live/set.php?id=72157624422470351. Manzarek-Krieger played Wolverhampton Civic Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday, July 18.  Several fans have written to tell me that Mili did not return after the intermission, either due to illness or having lost his voice.  At that point, Ray took over and did the singing.  We all know that Ray has the pipes to sing those songs, and it sounds like he rocked the rest of the show.  A YouTube video of Ray singing Light My Fire can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0-jSVjz260. (thanks, Dave). Manzarek-Krieger played the brand new Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin, Ireland accompanied by the Lombard Philharmonic Orchestra on Saturday, July 17.  A lucky fan who was at that show commented that the Lombard gave the theatre a wall of sound, truly immense!  Their set list that night was:  Love Me Two Times; Break On Through; Love Her Mady; Waiting For The Sun; People Are Strange; Moonlight Drive with Horse Latitudes; Wild Child; Changeling; Wishful Sinful; Not To Touch The Earth -- intermission (interval) -- flamenco solo / Spanish Caravan; Crystal Ship; Five To One; Touch Me; Roadhouse Blues; Riders On The Storm; Light My Fire. (thanks, Garrett)

Manzarek-Krieger played in Prague, Czech Republic at Kongresove Centrum Praha on Tuesday, July 13.  A lucky fan who was there provided this set list: Roadhouse Blues; Break On Through; Strange Days; Moonlight Drive; Wild Child; Peace Frog; Blue Sunday; Alabama Song; Not To Touch The Earth; Wishful Sinful; Back Door Man; flamenco solo / Spanish Caravan; Touch Me; Crystal Ship; L.A.  July 17, 2010        M-K pix
Yesterday I linked to a site called
Polodrom and said they were pix of Manzarek-Krieger playing Bospop Festival at Weert in The Netherlands on Sunday night.  I have since heard from two other fans with different info about the photos.  I guess this link is definitely Bospop pix, since it's on their website: http://www.bospop.nl/internet/Page/334360_bospop-2010-bands-zondag-deel-3.aspx.  Apparently yesterday's link may was from the July 14 show in Jüchen, Germany ...  although that show was not listed on the official M-K website, I reported on that addition on June 6 when a fan sent me the link and info.  A fan who attended the Jüchen show sent me a partial, non-chronological list of what he could remember of the set list from their 2-hour show: Roadhouse Blues, Break On Through, Crystal Ship, Peace Frog, Blue Sunday, Waiting For The Sun, Alabama Song, Back Door Man/Crawling King Snake medley, Strange Days, Moonlight Drive, Not To Touch the Earth, Robby flamenco solo/Spanish Caravan, Touch Me, Wishful Sinful, Waiting For The Sun, Been Down So Long ... and encore: Light My Fire.  (thanks, Kevin and Marco)

 July 7, 2010        Manzarek-Krieger at Bospop
The Manzarek-Krieger European tour
starts this weekend in Austria.  On Sunday, July 11 they will play Bospop in The Netherlands.  A fan has written me with info regarding a change in the band's schedule at that festival, so if you're going to be there, heads up:  M-K were scheduled at 13:45 hours at the mainstage.  For tour schedule reasons, their set time is now 22:15, and they will be playing in the tent.  They are now the closers after the World Cup final between Holland and whoever.  Manzarek-Krieger will start at 22:15 even if the match goes overtime.  This info is according to a fan who wanted to share with other fans who are going to Bospop.  Here is the website for the festival: http://www.bospop.nl/internet/Folder/263242_bospop-nieuws.aspx  (thanks, Ronald)

 July 6, 2010        Robby interview
Robby Krieger gave an interview
about 'Singularity' and lots of other topics, to rockededition.com.  It's very recent because he references last week's Rockline with Waylon, and the songs they performed.  It covers a lot of topics but they are not the 'usual questions'.  Good interview, credited to Michael Duncan.  Read it at: http://www.rockedition.com/interviews/interview-with-robby-krieger/

June 30, 2010        Robby interview <> Robby on Rockline tonight <> Robby & Waylon on Rockline
Robby Krieger's interview about
'When You're Strange' with Canada's Amherst Daily is at:  http://www.amherstdaily.com/Canada---World/Arts/2010-06-30/article-1435614/Doors-guitarist-Krieger-says-new-documentary-shows-the-real-Jim-Morrison/1

Don't forget about Robby Krieger's 90-minute appearance this evening on Rockline.  This will begin at 8:30 p.m. (west coast) and 11:30 east.  Go to: http://rocklineradio.com/ for a list of affiliate stations that carry the show or to listen on-line.  The number to call to (try to) get through to speak with Robby is 800-344-ROCK (800-344-7625).  If you miss it tonight, the program will be archived for two weeks.

Robby Krieger's appearance tonight on Rockline was terrific!  His son Waylon was there and on air as well.  There were some great discussions.  Robby explained the painting which graces the cover of "Singularity" and referenced Stephen Hawking!  Robby played some flamenco, and then Waylon joined in on electric for 'Spanish Caravan', sung by Robby.  When questioned about a tour, Robby said that would probably be in the fall.  Many songs from "Singularity" were played in full or in part ... I especially like 'Southern Cross' ... that's a song that you can get lost listening to!  Waylon sang the 'Back Door Man' / 'Five To One' medley, accompanied by his dad.  One of the callers asked Robby if he has ever sold his paintings; Robby replied yes, usually for charity auctions.  Robby related the story of Jim's creation of 'People Are Strange.'  Waylon was asked what it's like being Robby's son.  Waylon discussed his band Darkroom, then they played & Waylon sang the song 'Into the Dark Room'.  He talked about his recent band gig in Santa Monica, which I wrote about on May 30.  The 90 minutes were interspersed with calls from fans with questions.  A song from "Singularity" called 'Let It Slide' was played near the end ... it really has a rocking groove to it.  All in all, a great 90 minutes.  The interview will be available for the next two weeks if you missed it at Rockline Replay: http://rocklineradio.com/replay/replay.php
