From U.K.’s magazine “Record Collector” - February 2004  -  page 37

cover:  "20 LPs That Shook The World"

100 Most Over-Rated Acts In The World, Ever

DOORS:

The Legend:  mystical, atmospheric mingling of taut bar-room blues with iconic singer Jim Morrison's shamanic eroticism

The Reality:  Today, any pub band in the country will offer up the same kind of dull, plodding rock that the Doors are reputed to have excelled at.  That their singer chose to turn himself into the fat, hilariously-bearded self-pastiche (via pie) that now seems prevalent in social and working men's clubs on any given Saturday night makes such comparisons all the more painfully acute.

The Smoking Gun:  Ian Astbury does it better.

To put this particular story in perspective, the magazine article really only featured 20 "most over-rated acts" ... and included among that group are David Bowie, Beach Boys, The Clash, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Iggy Pop, Neil Young, and Frank Zappa.
