December 2, 2002 Ray's participation in recent Ahimsa Music Group
show
Ray Manzarek
joined the Ahimsa Music tour at Sunset Room in Hollywood on November 21st,
as reported below in November 16th update. The December 1st issue of LA Times
contains a review of the evening, including this quote by Indian percussionist
Ravi Jakhotia, a.k.a. Ravidrums: ".... the performers on the evening's bill --
all of whom incorporate South Asian culture into their music. Later, the
Doors' Ray Manzarek would take the stage, as
a personal favor, Jokhotia explained. The two men met recently in a New Jersey
airport. As Jakhotia's story goes, he approached Manzarek and said, 'Thank you
for all the music.' Now they're performing on each other's new records. The
Doors 'were so hip to the Indian thing the first time around,' Jakhotia said."
The evening was hosted by the Ahimsa Fund, a San Francisco-based charity founded after 9/11 to promote cultural understanding among American, South Asian and Arab communities. ("Ahimsa" means nonviolence.)

'Love Her Madly' was previously previewed on February 17, 2001 at the Arcadia on Santa Monica Pier as part of the Santa Monica International Film Festival. Ray indicated in remarks that evening that the soundtrack music was not completed, so this NYC showing will surely have some differences from that first showing.
