Q MAGAZINE     January 2003

magazine cover:  "100 Greatest Albums"

#87   The Doors:   The Doors

A mid-60's salvo across the bows of rock convention.

Recorded with an alacrity that belied their sprawling live sets and the massive, trance-inducing drug use that birthed it, The Doors first album was delivered, near-fully formed, in a mere fortnight.  Nothing after, though, was to be as straightforward as this rich fusion of blues, rock, jazz, and artistic pretension.

From the doped-up kinkiness of The Crystal Ship, to the apocalyptic poetry of The End, via the Pop Idol-career launching Light My Fire, The Doors is a rock'n'roll spectacle.

If you are wondering what topped the magazine's voters list as the Top Five albums:

#5  Eminem:  The Marshall Mathers LP

    #4  Radiohead:  The Bends

        #3  Beatles:  Revolver

            #2  Radiohead:  OK Computer

                #1  Nirvana:  Nevermind

say what ???
