Concert Review: The Doors 21st Century At P-G Pavilion

The Doors 21st Century have two original members -- Ray Manzarek on keyboard and guitarist Robby Krieger. They picked Cult lead singer Ian Astbury to replace Jim Morrison and drummer Stewart Copeland, formerly of the Police, to replace John Densmore.
The concert was scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. -- which, for most shows, means the headliner doesn't go on until 9 or 9:30 p.m. Not this show. The band went on stage at 8 p.m., so all you tailgaters that like to party hard before you go in, make sure you go in on time for this show.
The two surviving Doors members did a great job in their pick of Astbury. He grew his hair long like Morrison, wore Morrison-type clothes and -- most importantly -- sounded very similar.
The stage had a big screen behind it, where all types of 60s and 70s images were shown -- psychedelic colors, pictures, etc. There were many pictures of the band in its heyday, as well.
They played many of the Doors' great songs, including "Light My Fire," "Five To One," "Break On Through," "Back Door Man," "Spanish Caravan" and "Riders On The Storm." The only song I didn't hear that I wanted to was "Peace Frog."
Of course, there were a few of us in the crowd yelling and hoping for Cult songs like "Fire Woman" and "She Sells Sanctuary," but that didn't happen.
Manzarek and Krieger were on fire. They each were in the spotlight for most of the show, they each had a number of solos and they were tearing it up. This show had a lot of energy to it.
My only complaint is that the band only played a two-song encore. Don't bands play three-song encores any more? Where's the love?
This was a good show. For those that weren't sure how the "new" Doors would sound, worry no further. They sound great!
