Statement by John Densmore on his forum on December 10, 2005

But, what about the fans, John???

"I have recently become aware of the fact that certain fans are complaining that the Estates and I have refused to grant synch rights to ROTS that would permit them to release a DVD of "their" concert at the Taj Majal in Atlantic City. As often is the case, there is a lot of misinformation. Let me set the record straight.

The concert in question may have been announced as a ROTS concert during the concert, but it was NOT billed or promoted as a ROTS concert. It was a concert that was billed for months as a Doors of the 21st Century concert, a name not permitted to be used by that band. I am unaware of any attempt to change the promotion before the time of the concert performance, other than by the lawyers for the Estates and myself advising Trump of the permanent injunction. Furthermore, the band never was authorized to tell VH1 or Taj Majal that it had what are called synch rights to perform the music other than at a live concert. Be clear, neither the Estates nor I ever attempted to stop the band from performing the music, not one time.

The use of the Doors name for the concert in question was inappropriate for all the reasons decided by the Court. It would, indeed, be curious to now allow the very same concert, for which profits have been determined to be wrongfully gained, to be the subject of a video/dvd.  I am not opposed to Ray and Robby singing Doors songs, or ROTS doing so and selling DVDs of legitimate concert performances. In fact, the Estates and I already have agreed to permit synch rights to be granted to ROTS for a future performance. But this instance, like other concerts that were sold and promoted inappropriately, should not be permitted to generate even more profits as a result of the misappropriation of a partnership asset, namely the name The Doors. I wish Ray and Robby well and I hope everyone enjoys watching their performances. They are great musicians. But we certainly will not allow them to compound a prior mistake by selling DVDs of a prior concert."
