CORRECTION:   Several Italian-speaking visitors to my website have written me to say that the Italian version of the story is correct.   However, the English translator made the error, referring to 'former drummer with The Doors Ray Manzarek'.     Apparently the Italian version does indeed credit Ray's musical instrument properly, as the keyboard player.   The Italian text appears at the bottom of this page.   (thanks, Faith and Marco)     June 12, 2004

GENOA CAPITAL OF POETRY FROM JUNE 17TH TO 30TH

(AGI) - Genoa, June 11 - The Genoa International Poetry Festival will be celebrating its tenth edition from June 17 to June 30. The festival, created in 1995 by Claudio Pozzani, will bring together tens of poets from all over the world, from Nobel Prize winners to high-profile authors and newcomers. Among the names confirmed are Montalban, Benni, Nobel Prize Winners Walcott, Milosz, and Mutis, Ferlinghetti and Houellebecq. Among the non-poets are artists who nevertheless are deeply related to poetry. Among them are Paco Ibanez, Roberto Vecchioni, Testa, Morgan, and above all former drummer with The Doors Ray Manzarek, who chose the Genoa Festival as the only European date of his world tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary since the death of Jim Morrison.

Sixty events are scheduled for this 10th edition. Among them are performances, meetings, public readings, shows, and other happenings in various part of the city and on the Piazza Ducale stage. The subject matter of the 2004 edition is "A poetic reconstruction of the Universe", a topic that will be dealt with by 40 foreign poets on June 18 and 19 at the Montale auditorium of the Carlo Felice theatre.
