KILMER LIGHTS UP THE WHISKY A GO GO AS JIM MORRISON

VAL KILMER returned to the stage as rock legend JIM MORRISON last night (08NOV06) when he joined THE DOORS for a 40th anniversary show in Hollywood. Group members JOHN DENSMORE, ROBBY KRIEGER and RAY MANZAREK celebrated their 40th year by signing merchandise for fans at three of the group's favourite haunts on Sunset Strip - Book Soup, the Whisky A Go Go and The Cat Club, formerly the London Fog. The special evening also marked the induction of the Whisky A Go Go into the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame.
The Doors wrapped up the evening of celebrations by performing classic tunes fronted by PERRY FARRELL, LINKIN PARK star CHESTER BENNINGTON and Kilmer, who portrayed late singer Morrison in OLIVER STONE's THE DOORS. The evening marked a rare reunion for the three existing members of The Doors, who fell out after Krieger and Manzarek created THE DOORS OF THE 21ST CENTURY with THE CULT star IAN ASTBURY. Densmore challenged the name and the reunion, forcing his bandmates to change their moniker to RIDERS ON THE STORM.
It was a very special night for the Whisky A Go Go - the venue became the first outside Cleveland, Ohio to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

LATEST:
VAL KILMER missed out on a chance to recreate JIM MORRISON onstage with the
real DOORS in Hollywood on Wednesday night (08NOV06) when he got "stuck in
traffic." Kilmer rehearsed with Doors founders ROBBY KRIEGER and RAY MANZAREK at
the fabled Whisky A Go Go venue before the group's 40th anniversary celebrations
got underway, but he failed to show for a scheduled jam session. The movie star,
who played late Doors frontman Morrison in OLIVER STONE's film THE DOORS, missed
out on the chance to join
PERRY FARRELL, SLASH and LINKIN PARK star CHESTER BENINGTON as part of the
last-night performance. Event spokesman YOSI SERGANT says, "He was there for
rehearsals and he was amazing. No one knows what happened to him. I think he got
stuck in traffic." Another absentee from the Whisky A Go Go show was The Doors
drummer JOHN DENSMORE, who signed merchandise for fans at the event but refused
to join his former bandmates onstage. Densmore has vocally opposed Krieger and
Manzarek's plans to reform and tour as THE DOORS OF THE 21ST CENTURY and his
efforts led to the duo renaming themselves RIDERS OF THE STORM. Densmore was
replaced by KEVIN FIGG, the drummer with Perry Farrell's new group SATELLITE
PARTY.
